Hmm. The numbers are wrong or the distribution is wrong or it's just flat BS?

OK. I just read the snopes thing.

The distribution looks like it's plausible when compared to any of the WX RADAR maps and ocean currents in the area though.

I hope this one incident doesn’t cause a problem for US nuclear electricity. Because right now this is the cleanest way to efficiently produce electricity at least until they invent a sustainable fusion reactor. Coal is dirty and produces a lot of hazardous wastes especially the left over ash (yeah and there is a lot more of that produced than nuclear waste). Not to mention all of the mercury it’s putting in the sea life and ozone emissions. Oh and it takes hundreds of pounds of coal to put out the same amount of energy a couple of pounds of low grade uranium can do.

My biggest worry is they started with one reactor bad, now they're up to 3 explosions and 4 reactors failing... I just hope they arn't fighting a losing battle :S

"Dangerous levels of radiation leaking from a crippled nuclear plant forced Japan to order 140,000 people to seal themselves indoors Tuesday after an explosion and a fire dramatically escalated the crisis spawned by a deadly tsunami."

"Japan's nuclear crisis escalated ominously following a third and more dangerous hydrogen explosion early Tuesday local time that may have damaged part of the reactor's primary containment shell, and a fire at a fourth reactor building that caused a major new release of radioactive contamination."

good point brought up by my dad..

"Their position is usually assuming that everybody does their job and that equipment will work.
Yesterday, the operators let the fire pump that was delivering sea water to the reactor #2 run out of diesel fuel. As a result, the hot core boiled off all the water and the hot fuel rods were left uncovered for almost two hours. Up until then, reactor #2 was almost under control.
There's a good chance that part of that core melted or warped so it lost its physical geometry and cooling it is harder to do. Now they are having difficulty cooling it and keeping the pressure down. As a result, they blew out a valve or something that is now allowing water to leak out and that makes it harder to keep the water levels up.
They might be under a little pressure so I can understand them making a mistake here and there, but that was a pretty big mistake.
The longer they can hold on, the better off everything will be, but they need to keep pumping water for a few weeks until the residual heat in the core is low enough to stop making steam."

Wow, I'm in no position to be criticizing a natural disastor but that was kinda re-donkulous..

I was just wondering about the total number. They should have enough reserve power, that once lines are brought back on line, or re installed, they should be able to get power back to everyone whos home wasnt completely destroyed.
