I think they said that all the reactors immediatly went into idle state when they felt an earthquake. But they still are creating a lot of heat and need to be cooled or SHTF.

you can do that by introducing a material that absorbs neutrons, such as boron, which will help slow down the reaction. This is done by the control rods in the reactor.

Maybe? I'm no expert either, I just know nuclear reactions have no off switch, there is only varying degrees of containment

you can only slow it, the issue is the damage done to the place that holds these items from the quake...they need quake proof containment i suppose.

They had quake proof containment, a 7 mag quake was tolerable, 8.9 mag is the biggest thats ever been seen

Most control rods require power to remove them, theyll go back in when power is cut. I'm not certain , but the idea of "cooler" water is really too hot for us, dont think you can put 45 degree water in.
Do they use 200 degree water to cool 450 degrees or such?

yeah, i guess there is a point where something is not quake proof anymore.

I saw street cameras of people just walking and all at once you see like 400 people just trip, it was weird.

that is a good idea, but there not be anything or anyone to work it if there was such a huge quake...how high does that richter scale go anyways?

Remember though the richter (SP) scale is not a linear line. The New Zeland quake was like a 6 some thing and this 9 was 6000 times more powerful.

richter ,scale is intersting. A 9.0 is 10x worse than an 8.0 if i recall.
Sadly , if man can build it , nature can reclaim it

Thats cause earthquakes act alot like sound, when the ground vibrates in the right frequency, it gets exponentially stronger. Just like reverb.

It looks like they have abandoned the Reactor site due to high levels of radiation. Guess it's on autopilot now. Not good!
