Just heard there is now an official meltdown of the reactor core in one of the reactors-I will be very happy to be incorrect:(

We made it through Chernobyl , it spewed a lot more radiation. Unfortunately i forgot most of what i knew on nuclear energy. Ive been to Hanford on field trips twice and on 3 nuclear subs, still I forget.

I saw the explosion, not sure what did it , but it could've been steam related, if i recall they have over 400 psi of steam, and well over the boiling point.Steam goes to 700x its original size from water. The fissable material will sit there and overheat and melt . For the entire mess it is , the radiation we get might actually stay at a safe level, dissipating over the pacific, I plan to be ready just the same. Hopefully another navy guy nuclear machinist mate or such is a member and can get more accurate info.

I still cant find out if the explosion was steam/pump/steam generator, it look a lot bigger than I would guess steam could do.

Presurized steam has alot of stored energy. Makes a great bomb.

They released steam from the reactor to reduce the pressure. The steam contained hydrogen from a reaction that happened when the reactor got too hot. The hydrogen exploded and blew the top off the reactor.
No electricity for cooling pumps. This will not end well.

Kinda what Im thinking. Using Sea Water to cool a reactor is a last ditch effort to prevent a melt down...or whatever. Shit will hit the fan.

Strange thing to know of it(steam n hydrogen) , but to actually see it blow up the containment structure,it really sets in.

Only nuclear incident I've seen was on sea trials , they added a 100' section to our sub , it changed center of bouyancy and center of gravity ,we did an emergency blow from test depth. On the way up we started listing severely to port. I was in the torpedo room port side looking up 30+degrees to see 2 torpedoes well strapped and about 4 shipmates hanging on for life. The angle SCRAMed the reactor. The sub dumped a LOT of air from the main ballast tanks and we went back down..controlled luckily, thank god for batteries.

RIP to my 08 Prerunner DC

Nuclear Power plants last much longer than 20 years. Since 3 mile island no plants have been built. So all nuclear power plants in the U.S. are at least 30 years old.

Asshole on the news, on CNN, some guy who keeps wanting "transparency" about the incident, maybe that ass should help those busy people with no time for casual press conferences on his convenience.
