I think they will sell a million if the vehicle has some practicality, somewhere in its DNA. If it’s only good at trail running, they may struggle. At the end of the day, most people admire trucks on 35”s and a removable roof, but end up buying a Subaru wagon when push comes to shove.

If they can steel sales from the Jeep crowd, and 4Runner crowd, they will do well.

Im still not sure if this is competition for the Tacoma. I kinda look at it as having all the negatives (for me) that keep me from buying a 4Runner or a Jeep for that matter. I’d love to have one as a second vehicle, but want something with a pickup bed as my primary vehicle.

This is not aimed at a truck, this is aimed at the offroad scene, which is such a hot area right now. I think they will have no issues selling these. I'll wait til the second or third year bronco is out, have the Tacoma paid off , and buy a 2 door bronco on 35s. I don't see this as a gamble at all, they know exactly what they are doing (fyi not a big Ford fan).

Then the year after you and me buy the Bronco, Toyota will release it’s North-America-spec Landcruiser redux.......and it will be beautiful.....and you and I will cry into our beers.....uggghhh.

TFL Truck has a F150 drag race video where they compare the 2.7, 3.5, and 5.0. They do a great job of conveying the differences in how they feel.

This is why the 2.7L EB is so fun to drive in comparison to the 3.5L EB. 125% more torque in the normal rev ranges for normal driving. That’s why they feel “zippy”. In the 2.7 EBs you always feel like you are going to chirp the tires. This is especially noticeable coming from the V8 trucks, or my Tacoma. The trade off when compared to the 3.5EB is less cargo capacity and less towing.

The Bronco is gonna be fun to drive with the 2.7L. Gonna be beast mode.

Hmm. I spent some time in them as well and have a different opinion. I will admit,,, I didn’t know the full capabilities of the rig until they sent me to their off-road driving school in North Indiana though.

I think it would be too niche for Toyota to jump into this topless doorless crawler land. Would I love it, hell yes! Will they do it, not seeing it.

Just hoping for a hybrid 4Runner, can't see spending 4Runner $ in the year 2020 and averaging under 20 mpg, seems regressive as a purchase decision.

I’m really curious to see the economy numbers for the new Bronco on factory 35”s, I wonder if the Ecoboost motor will be enough to keep the economy of a mostly square vehicle, lifted, on huge tires, reasonable. Doubt it matters to buyers, but will be interested to see.

I think of this as a preview of the Ranger Raptor. So, Toyota, have you got the next gen Pro ready for factory 35s/lockers/10-ish speed gearbox and boost? I hope they do as competition will bring better Tacoma's to the market.

Edit - Full disclosure, I really like the new Bronco, I think Ford put their best effort into it. I think the 2025 truck and SUV offerings will be better because of Ford's efforts here in 2020.

For those who have not driven either of the eco boost V6s. They freakin' rip. I was amazed at the seamless power starting @ 1,500 RPM. Not as certain about long term durability, but my buddy has 120K on his 3.5L and has no significant problems. I hope Toyota's coming next gen trucks bring over the Lexus boosted 3.5L V6. That would rip as well in a super Tacoma / 4Runner or a GX and have great durability.

The guys saying that have probably never driven an EB Ford.

And probably never will because according to them it won't get out of the parking lot before breaking down. :D

I remember a few years ago a guy on a Chevy forum was claiming that his 5.3 Silverado with intake/exhaust/and a tuner was romping on EB F150s.

Even the Chevy guys on that forum told him he's either an idiot or the EB didn't know they were racing.

    A stock EB is strong.

One with a $500 tune is a tire melter.

Like I mentioned earlier, I suspect the reason FCA teased a Wrangler with the 6.4 Hemi instead of the 5.7 is because they probably knew that even with a 5.7 in a Wrangler it would most likely get walked by a 2.7 EB Bronco.

Bronco will not be underpowered with the boosted 2.7L. Biggest problem will be the people flooding the hospitals when you rooster tail gravel in their faces.

+1. Would like to see better mpgs from both 4runner and Tacoma. And not just a couple mpgs from a poorly calibrated 6AT like the 3rd gen Taco. A hybrid or plug in hybrid truck should have no problem getting mpgs in the mid to high 20s.

    Edit:
Another way to look at it. Fifteen years ago, the rav4 got 25 mpg and the 4runner got 16 mpg. Today, you can get a hybrid rav4 that gets 40 mpg while the new 4runner gets ... 16 mpg.
