Is anyone running the nitro worm gear LSD ? Where I live with serious ice & snow a limited slip would be the best option for my daily driver … !

I have to admit, I clicked on this thread out of curiosity, and before I did, Limited Slip Differential was not anywhere close to what I thought I would find......:duh:

Wonder if you could even get it to work without messing with the factory computer simulated LSD.

I’m unfamiliar with that product but the Detroit Truetrac is long considered to be the tried and true best LSD on the market using a Torsen design instead of clutches. I’ve run 3 of them in my Toyota’s and wI’ll soon remove my locker to install my next one.

They are available for the 05-15 8.4, but not the locker diffs. I wonder what the difference is between 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen 8.4 that would make them incompatible. I would initially think ring gear size is too small but 2nd Gen is 3.73 and 3rd Gen is 3.91. Could possibly swap the diff from a 2nd Gen if the axle tubes are the same. I’m swapping my 3rd only for my truetrac install.

I don't recall there being an 8.4" for the 3rd Gen, I thought it was only 8" or 8.75".

The 2nd Gen TRD OR/Pro 8” was beefed up to 8.75” for 3rd Gen. The 8.4” carried over from 2nd Gen.

I believe that is incorrect, everything I am finding for the 3rd Gen says the BD20 8" is the carryover rear, and the other available rear is the BD22A 8.75", with the 8.4" not being available on 3rd Gen.
