I recently got in a front end collision with my 01 Tacoma when I was 1,000 miles away from home visiting family for the holidays.. The truck sustained damage to the front-end and both airbags deployed.

Before I can drive my baby home I am going to have repair some of the damage with the help from a local mechanic but am looking for advice from other Tacoma enthusiasts who know and understand these trucks better than most anyone.

For now I'd like to get her back on the road and driving safely the 1,000 miles back home. She starts right up and the brakes work fine, All the instruments in the dash work and there's really no damage inside the cabin. Surprisingly both headlights and turn signals work fine but the seatbelts now do not come out. The radiator and fan definitly need replacing but would like to know what else should I tell the mechanic to look for that he might over look if not familiar with these models.

I'd like to hold off on the major body work and restoration till I get home.

    sorry to hear:(

Have them take a look at the power steering components and all the belts and pulleys. Other than that you should be good to go.

Is it legal to drive with deployed airbags even if they have been cut out???

Bobbed Left front ~ Ok not really but I bought it crashed from the kids dad 4-CHEAP. Frame Swap and 04 Clip + 6" lift ~ Woo Hoo!!!
ARE YOU PAYING STORAGE? If so the tow lot may hit you for a big big fee. Get it out ASAP

    As far as repairs~

Remove the grill and front bumper.

Pull the radiator support back out the best you can.

Repair / replace the fan and shroud. Check all fluids / lines and systems.

    Align headlights.

Check frame for damage (They will fold in the area behind the strut tower / in front of the cab mount).

Check steering rack for damage. Verify safe steering operation and alignment as best you can with basic tools. Pay for a basic alignment if you find it queationable.

Brakes Steering fluids lights and you are good to go.

As far as the air bags ~ No one is gonna pull you for it but if somthing happens to YOU your insurance my have a good case to refuse payment for your injuries.

See my thread for my repairs on my 99 which was in a similar crash.
