I have to echo this. My '06 was great, but after a week the tranny seems to have gotten used to me. Loved my 2nd gen (almost cried when I had to leave it at the dealership, lol) but love the way my 3rd gen drives and rides. Has good power and MPG's are improved.

Lots of people like the 3rd gen. What you are noticing is that there are a few people who vocally dislike the 3rd gen and many people who wish it came with a bit larger engine or different gearing. Don’t worry about what others think of your truck. You obviously like it since you bought it and that’s all that matters.

It can be a neck snapper :bikewhoops:. I was a little worried at first when it felt like it was searching for the right gear, but was really surprised it smoothed out so quickly.

I'm with you. It's a mid sized truck, the power is good for the size and I'm fine with the transmission.

I was between this or a 1500 but decided I didn't need the towing or payload of the 1500 so the extra money for a comparabley equipped 1500 wasn't worth it. My buddy paid 35k for a new f150 with the NA 3.5 which has basically the same specs as the Toyota 3.5 and his is basically stripped. No thanks.

Why do they suck? Not enough power for you or geared to low?

My 15 has the 4.0 and no problems,my 17 Pro has had 2 leaking gaskets already, and the tranny leaves a lot too be desired,I really wish Toyota would have updated the 4.0 and kept it in the new trucks.

I drive a second gen lol. That being said I’ve been invited to drive 3rd gens several times by my dealer and even lent one during a warranty claim for a day. It’s a nice truck no question but it’s a lot different than the 2nd gen which some people like and other don’t.

    Work in progress...
"Her shaft is bent and her rear end leaks, you can fix her quick with an oily rag. Use a nail as a starter; I lost the key. Don't pay no mind to that whirrin' sound. She use a little oil, but outside a' that, she's cherry."
As C.W. would say, you will come to an understanding.

My bottom line is that it gets better gas mileage (barely) with much more power than the Nissan 2.5 four in my previous Suzuki Equator. Pulls a bigger trailer too. Sounds good when pressed for passing.

If the trans was a 5 speed, but had similar gearing to a GM 2004R/700R4, it’d be a wicked combo IF it had the Camry power/correct diff gearing. Forget MPG’s!

If the 3.5 had a 2nd gen transmission behind it it would be great.

Most of us like the MT because of the gearing. It's very similar to the 2nd gen AT.
