Dont pay the dealer to install anything, do consider buying a Toyota extended warranty depending on how much they offer it for.
Im a Ford dealer tech and I know for Ford you do not have to buy the warranty when you buy the car, Ive done Ford extended warranty inspections for cars that customers bought from Carmax and Craigslist and wherever. The point of this is that you should be able to buy the warranty from any Toyota dealer basically when ever you want so you can get quotes from multiple dealers and use them against each other to get a lower price. DO NOT BUY A THIRD PARTY EXTENDED WARRANTY.

The other thing that I recently realized is that while I am young and a mechanic, with tons of tools and can fix hopefully whatever breaks, but I just had shoulder surgery two months ago and if something breaks on either of my families vehicles I am basically useless to fix it for another few months, I sure as shit am not laying on my back and changing a starter in my drive way. If I had a warranty and something broke then I would be given a loaner/rental and all I would have to do is pay the deductible for the issue to be fixed.

Copied and pasted from my previous posts.
"I use to think extended warranties were bullshit and just a way to steal money from the customer, however now that I am a dealer mechanic I think they are worth it especially if its gonna cover bumper to bumper, now I work at Ford but I just did a timing cover on a 3.5 non eco boost explorer that was customer pay and that was 8 hours of labor. Labor rate of $130/hr equals $1040 plus new gaskets and sealant. I'm not saying that your gonna need a new timing cover gasket but that's a big ass bill that would have been covered. If the warranty also covers modules then that's surely worth it since those are rather expensive, they don't break often but I don't think I've seen a Ford OEM module for under $500.
Sometimes they don't cover everything, I have a 3rd brake light waterleak on a mustang that's not covered, not sure why though.
I will say that I have been unimpressed with aftermarket warranties, they are weird about what the cover such as yeah your front calipers are stick and cooked your pads and rotors, now you need 2 rotors, new pads, 2 new calipers. But the aftermarket warranty only covers the calipers and your stuck paying for the rotors and pads."

The fact that you own a toyota but are a ford tech shows me exactly why i bought a toyota

    You are wrong.
I had the Toyota when I started at Ford. The tacoma is the second vehicle Ive bought because I have friends who have had good experience with them. I work at Ford because they were hiring when our sister toyota dealer across the street was not, Ive seen many stupid things that toyota does that ford doesnt do that make me hate working on my tacoma.
In my opinion all brands are equally shitty and have their own issues, but you get use to how one brand operates, both mechanically and electrically. Since I have so much experience working on Fords I know what engines/transmission to avoid and if they have issues I know where to look based on experience. Not saying that Fords dont have issues look at the 5.4 or the focus auto transmission. On the other hand I need to replace my entire front end(struts/LCA/UCA/tierods) but I don't want to deal with seized alignment bolts/cams or the stupid ass UCA bolts Toyota uses, this wouldnt be a issue if I had a Ford. And dont get my started on the U-joints/carrier on these fucking Tacomas, who thought it was smart to have to remove the middle U joint to change out the carrier, Ive seen very very few U-joint failures on Fords.
I have never seen a ford frame rust away, sure surface rust and some little holes on the really bad one but not like my tacoma frame, granted I live in louisana so we dont get a lot of rust but even mine is bad.
My next vehicle will be a Ford, keep in mind if I worked at Toyota I would likely buy a Toyota.

It varies, but yeah. The last purchase the guy was cool, all he said was "I don't suppose you want any extras". A quick no and that was it. Some just go on and on and on, not giving you a chance to even say no until they finish their script. I've even had one so scripted they got annoyed when I tried to cut them off to save them and I time.

Will be devil's advocate here. The only one I would consider is the underbody rust protection. Any only because of the lifetime warranty, but I would also carefully read through the terms of said warranty to make sure you're not getting screwed. Pay it in cash, no point rolling add ons into your financing if you do get them.

I personally did not do any, because I am cheap and religiously power wash my underbody with warm water after they lay mag chloride.

I purchased my taco In July, the finance guy just looked at me and said you just bought a Toyota, you don’t need any extended warranty’s. I almost passed out... every other car I bought was followed by a very high pressure sales pitch for all the extra warranties. Then again I’m old, maybe he just looked at me and saw no chance of selling me on it.

I'm old also, but it didn't deter the sales manager from ploping his book of extended toyota warranty plans in front of me. When i looked at him, and refuse he actually got crankier telling me i'm making a big mistake. I did ask them earlier for a paint and interior protection plan that they offered which i took. I did speak with other toyotas owners that had the same plan before getting it...was told it was very good adding a lot of value if trading in, or privately selling your vehicle down the road. What i was surprised on is they never offered any plan for rust proofing, or recommend anyone else.

I know that make a big fat commission on the extras. I purchased mine on July 3rd, they probably just wanted to get out and start their weekend

Again I'm not really worried about the mechanical equipment. It's the fancy electronics that would cost a fortune. I paid $450 for a 7 year plan. I work from home so the truck only put on 1700 miles in a year including a trip from NC to FL and back.
