only comes in 90 foot lengths, how am I supposed to use this with my ATV winch and half dozen snatch blocks?

as long as we don't give up on it, it will continue to be. Just gotta shovel a bit of coal onto the embers once in a while.

Just watched the sales pitch video, and have to say it made me even less of a believer. The part where he does a run through of what winching with a normal synth winch line vs his winch line reminds me of those infomercials where people can't function in real life. Apparently winching with a regular synthetic line consists of not having your own tree saver or shackle ready to go so you have to ask everyone else on the trail for them all while fumbling around the tree with no thumbs. Video starts at the run through

Took a glance at his video after he gave Matt’s Off-road Recovery one.

My first thought was you could just look up how to do some basic splices and make your own (I’m sure that’s how he made the first prototypes anyway) Its just a standard line with a few loops spliced in and a knot in the end.

Price didnt scare me, I mean yes its expensive, but good, fun toys usually are?

    I love synthetic line. I pre-ordered. :cookiemonster:

Playing with new fun stuff is a reason I got my truck. This is just another toy I can try out and see how it works.

I commend your bravery posting this after everyone bashing practically every aspect of it :crapstorm:

I guess let us know how it goes when you get it, and please use a proper tree saver

I aint scared, bash away.

Yes I always will use a proper tree saver. I understand why a tree saver is thick, and cheap.

    Expensive doesn't always mean good.

I mean, it's your money, but when you can get an entire winch for about that much, or 100' of 12k Spydura for $400, it definitely seems over priced.

And using a tree saver (as you should) pretty much negates all of the other supposed advantages.

OK, the guy has some points. I’ve left/lost shackles on the trail particularly after multiple vehicle pulls with additional straps for added length, dropped shackles in the snow and had to dig for them in tree wells in blizzards as I was trying to put a tree strap around a tree. Neither was enjoyable. I’m a bit OCD and don’t like waiting for others to get their gear together, so I see the speed thing as a plus. As already mentioned the idea of attaching this rope to a bumper attachment as shown in the video I have a real problem with do to the radius and abrasions. I do not have a problem with not using a tree strap for the sake of the tree, the rope is soft enough, but abrasion of the rope is again the problem.

One thing that has not been discussed is the total cost of a regular synthetic rope plus whatever end you prefer versus the ~$500 cost of this product. For the new user just started out and not wanting to buy all the extras it may be worth it. All the extras (tree strap, shackles, extra length straps) will be bought eventually.

For those who wheel alone or competition use this could be a real plus, except for the price. I’m set and will not be ordering one, but will pay close attention if I see one in use.

A single Crosby shackle and tree saver is $50, so the extra hundreds of dollars that the line costs doesn’t exactly break even in that regard.

    o_O

It has a soft shackle built onto the end.

I know from previous posts you DGAF about soft shackles. Some people do.

The price is ridiculous. I know. Does not make it good, but it has the 'promise' of being good. I shall see what it really is. I use my toys a bit, so I should be able to evaluate and review it. :cookiemonster:
Can pretty much bet, just like you have said, it will not be worth what it is priced at. :anonymous:

Couldn't help myself, had to be a sucker and try it.

I wheel alone quite often, and his points are over exaggerated about all the things you have to bring to the tree to start winching. Yet it is true.

In -20C, grab that big metal hook, or aluminum flatlink. Even with gloves on it gets cold in moments. Lug that and all the things, in waist deep snow to the tree and setup on it.... Forget 1 thing..... Have to go back to the truck and back to the tree in waist deep snow in -20C.

Having the soft shackle on the end eliminates 2 things, 1 soft shackle, 2 flatlink.

    :cookiemonster:

I see it as a great thing, that was the main reason I got it. Not the tree saver part. :notsure:

As far as this new rope goes, I think its kinda cool and could have some cool applications. BUT I do agree with the two main comments no tree protector = abrasion to the rope AND damage to the tree. 100% would still keep a tree saver and some shackles in my kit if I had this. Cant really argue with the price too much though. A) its got that 'overland' markup on it, and B) to make at 90 ft length of this thing with all the loops in it, its probably close to 120-130 of AmSteel line Im guessing. And that shit is expensive..

    "All the things." lol what.

I have a warn ultimate hook on the end of my winch line which allows me to hook right to a tree saver without the need of a shackle. So all I've got to do is grab a tree saver and that's it. If I'm walking to hook up to a tree and forget the one and only thing I need to grab, I deserve the walk to shame to go grab it.

I'm confused because you seem to admit that it's frivolous and overpriced and yet bought it anyways.
