What do you guys think about this as a possibly easy project car?

    1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am

I'm done modding my truck and I sold my motorcycle, so I'm dying for something to put money into. I know the 301 sucks. It's slow and it will always be an anchor but if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them.

    Whatcha think?

That turbo was crap when it came out, or so I heard. Still, I'd be willing to take on a project car like that.

Yea it's an anchor. The 400 was way faster but I'd like to clean this one up.

I'd like to lower it, repaint, new wheels, low pro tires.

Kinda like the fast and furious trans am

I'm most worried about the status of the turbo. A 30 year old turbo. I'm thinking the worst, that the turbo was never properly maintained. This would be my first turbo car so that worries me.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Save your money.
If you were to get it, just throw away the 301 and the turbo and swap in a 455/428 or 400.
But ponchos are somewhat pricey to build.
You gotta remember that it is 30+ years old. All sorts of little sh*t is going to be bad and need replacing. And god knows what all the previous owners have done to it (I going to go out on a limb and say it is not a one owner car based on the photos).

I would bet that a bone stock a 4.0 tacoma could dust an 80 Turbo T/A

The 300zx would be a better platform to start with but the price and the pics of that thing is a little sketchy in my opinion.

Save your money, research and find out exactly what you want and what to look for, go from there.
