Hey everybody! I’m new here and new to the Toyota world. I recently came into possession of a 2011 Tacoma TX Pro TRD, 4.0L, 4WD, Automatic.

IMG_9103.jpg IMG_9102.jpg I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this but I have a question about my leaf springs. My driver’s side has four leafs and my passenger side has three leafs. From what I can tell the truck had the recall done but why would they replace it with a different spring? I’ll upload some photos to show it.

Some clown(s) were in there. They may have been trying to fix a Taco lean or they were just being cheap. Suggest get a replacement leaf pac. Replace both sides.

Take offs (Toyota OEM) are for sale regularly. Deavers are high end. People dump OME at bargain prices because they squeak.

Second thoughts. There may be something else going on. Inspect the front suspension. Are the coil springs in good condition. Just to be safe. Are the front shocks the same color?

‘Hopefully there isn’t something nefarious going on. Did your brother in law sell you the truck?

They might have got an OEM spring from a junk yard. There is a fix for a TSB back in the day where they replaced a 3 leaf with a 4 leaf for those of us that complained. Both 3 and 4 leafs are “OEM”. Whoever replaced one didn’t look.

If it’s OEM, 3 is stock. 4 is after a basic AAL.

Those leaf packs look done for.

I’m a mechanic by trade and picked this up off of one of my customers. They did not want to put any more money into it and they were getting ready to replace it. The suspension is all original (minus the leaf spring), the truck has 227k miles on it and all suspension parts will be getting replaced.

I just wanted to make sure that there wasn’t anything I was missing. Thanks for everyone who responded!

I'd be suspicious of those packs to break anyday.

If you want to replace it with the same but better condition for cheap or free, there's always used OE takeoffs

I’m leaning towards aftermarket. I’m dumping a little bit of money but A LOT of time into this thing. If I’m doing suspension, I’m doing it all and doing it right.
