The lowest trim Tacoma is more capable than the highest trim Mavrick. The potential is even greater.

The only thing I like about the Maverick is its size.

The good news is that there are decent competitive offerings now.

    Pretty much.

I like the Maverick, but not enough to buy one.

Really hard to beat a Tacoma for a do-it-all vehicle. Could get better fuel economy, but oh well, makes that up n other areas.

One of those CUVs make more sense as a second run around vehicle.

I don’t think people are saying they compete in the same class.

True, most Tacomas never see dirt.

Need a basic little truck for light duty, Maverick is a good option.

Sub $30K for the Hybrid FWD, and 42 mpg city, that’s is pretty good. Fits a couple dirt bikes, not bad really.

SR Xtra Cab will probably be the best cheap small truck you can buy, so good you don't even want it but buy it anyway.

Also true. Had a chance to look over a Maverick, they are cheap, because they are.

Cheapest Tacoma SR is the XCLB 2WD with no options. Ironically about the same msrp as my ‘21 ACLB SR 4WD V6. XCLB is a couple steps backwards from mine. Less power, lower tow rating, no access doors. 4WD will cost you $3200 more.

The SR XC is not a direct replacement for your truck though. It’s a replacement for the 2.7L.

The XC is the truck that does the least, looks like the smallest BOF truck that will be available. It's not really the cheapest either, Frontier King Cab base is less, and you get a slightly larger truck with a V6. I don't know if the Tacoma XC is lighter than the Frontier KC, but it looks that way. Also if Toyota put the 6spd in XC, that would sell a lot of them.

Also also true, can’t get it exact. The SR5 is probably closer, but has more options on it standard like power drivers seat.

Price gap increases by $8400. Bought my truck only 2 years ago. That is quite the jump, and still no access doors, and 3 gallon smaller tank. The 317 ft-lbs tq would be nice, not sure if it is worth $8400 though. Don’t think there is a rear slider window available either.

Shall we revisit the Ridgeline and its 19 gallon tank?

Lol! 21 gallon in my 3rd Gen, no thanks! Do like the Honda but misses a few marks for me.

True. Never have there been more choices for the potential buyer. This is a good thing IMO.

One thing I get from this discussion is that Toyota has created a slot in its lineup for its Maverick competitor, the Stout or whatever they are calling it. Entry level model starting in the mid $20k range and high-end version pushing $40k.

wonder how close this is to the Stout, if not being it, but only in BEV, perhaps a hybrid version will hit the States. Could be a PHEV too.

    Is it tho?
    Tacoma 2wd sr 3500 towing, 1100 payload
Maverick 4k tow package 4000 towing, ~1500 payload
With AWD, maverick will have more traction than a 2wd Tacoma
    Maverick gets better gas mileage
Tacoma has a larger bed, less cab space on lowest cost model tho
$5000 increase from AWD maverick to lowest cost Tacoma
Tacoma is going to last much much longer, especially if you are hauling or towing

toyota really needs to bring a unibody truck to market in the USA

My guess he was referring to off-road chops, but yeah the Maverick edges it out a bit on capacities, plus having much better fuel economy. Still be a great run around town vehicle that is easy on gas, can be had for under $30K if you don’t go nuts with options. Be good for getting to trail heads.
