Some these guys in these threads, are bad asses, they can find stuff you'd look for for a year..

Like the on-line manuals earlier today.

Kinda excited someone else doing it all right too.
I get tired of the ones that let everything go to pot.
And then chime in when its on its last leg, limping down the road, smoking and on fire.

But I'm getting worried, you need to cool it, you're gonna have a nicer newer truck than mine.....

That is cool, I never thought of that...

that with the lube may be the ticket.

yeah, I know that panic, like when I strip the bolt hole in the brandnew lower control that holds the bottom of strut.
cause I was upside down and had to jack/compress that in place...definitely fudged that one up.

Probably gonna have to tack weld another nut in there.

    OS(again)/Thatt
    Thanks(seriously)

    thinking/reading
Since I’m so deep and bc that EGR port looks like a PITA bc to clean bc of fire wall clearance…..
AND injector cups won’t be here till next week…..
Might as well do it right. She deserves it.

Gonna remove Intake manifold and plenum/clean 200k of carbon buildup.
    Meh
It’s the right thing to do.

    Question……
    Besides the TB/IAC gaskets (have)
    Guessing need
    Block to plenum gasket
    Plenum to intake manifold gasket
    EGR gasket

    any others?

besides crap ton of cans of carb cleaner/brillo pads for carbon cleanup?
    As always
    Thanks!!!!

No, I did not take the lower part of plenum off...mine was not that bad

All I did was took the upper half off.....and left the lower on...
one less gasket to deal with..

however when you buy that gasket....it comes with both...
because I didnt take the lower off.....felpro gasket from autozone was just fine...
there's vids on ideals to clean that carbon....

bottle brushes, long skinny tube/bottle cleaner,
and I went to the dollar store to buy the cheap oven cleaner thats not as strong....
really strong oven cleaner can pit aluminum.....so dont let that stay on there very long at all

I used that clear yellow 'awesome stuff' from the dollar store /half gallon...
to make sure to wash off all that caustic oven cleaner.......if you dont 'float it off' alot of the carbon will remain.....cant just wipe it off....have to float it off....

I did mine to the block. It was uniform gunk all the way there. I used xylene and carb cleaner, brushes and a sack of rags. Whatever will break up that oily carbon gunk. Got a lot of info from this fellas thread that I was just now able to relocate:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...intake-manifold-cleaning.328682/#post-8666182
Mine was gunked way worse than his.
Great time to tackle fuel filter if that’s same location on your 2.4.

Yeah, be gentle with those two fuel lines.....they are very very expensive....
....and you dont want to know.

be ubber careful when u reseat any double flares....
make sure they're perfectly aligned....when you wrench down...

    easier said than done.....

I’m not sure of firing order
But front two intake tubes much more wet/carbon buildup than rear two tubes
    Just interested

    btw
I need to buy stock in brake cleaner and carb cleaner
Jeez…..I’m sure I’m like $80 in since I started working on this Taco

I didn’t notice much difference on mine, all looked like the worst on yours. Good job.

Wow that's way more build up than mine had.
What does that egr and temp port look like on the manifold,
and your egr valve itself, and the egr tube.

Any chance your pcv valve is sticking open?

Is that from blow back, does it use any oil?

Did you ever do a wet and a dry compression test?

    Leakdown test?

What does that mean with the front two being so soiled,
is that the egr stream kicking that across the top of the plenum???
    or something with the valves....

So sorry, for so many questions, but inquiring minds want to know...
    it takes a heck of a lot of work....to become a know-it-all....

Is there any chance that that's coming backward from the valves??

I used a good lint free rag with that xylene and got that gunk out of the side of the block ports too. Wrapped around a finger or two. Didn’t hurt and made me feel better about it.

Everything I’ve read here suggested repeated short hop driving would gunk like that, mine. I wasn’t concerned since it was uniform from throttle to block.

IF that is true.....I am so screwed...

    I actually avoid the highways.

I was hoping frequent oil changes would save me.

I'm a least a 100K from going back in there,
think I might start replacing that pcv valve more often.
