Disconnecting it shouldn't make it close, it's just a rheostat that tells the ECU what the postion of the TB is in. It does have a mechanical spring so taking it off the TB and your TB closes it's most like the the TPS. I think it's just two small screws and it pulls off.

I've put one on wrong and it gave me high idle, If you do take it off you should adjust it per factory manual specs after.

    Sorry for thread jack/not sorry

But is the cold idle speed of 2000 really necessary on these trucks? I hate how long the high idle lasts

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I wonder if a faulty Coolant Temp sensor would cause it to idle high.

installed a whole new throttle body and everything....nope still idling at 2k..fuck this...thought maybe it was because the battery was disconnected for a bit, it started at 1500 and slowly climbed up

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Vacuum leak somewhere is my guess.

If there are no noticable leaks anywhere, check your PCV valve. If its bad/gummed up it can cause a leak that isn't easily detecable. An easy way of testing this is to disconnect it from the intake manifold and plug the fitting on the manifold.
