Throttle response/calibration

    I did search, I swear. Most of the results when searching for this returned with aftermarket tunes, and that's not at play here.

    So I have an `07 4Runner and a `15 Tacoma, both with the 1GR-FE, and both with automatics. The throttle on the 4R is so much more responsive and lively than it is on the Taco. On my other DBW cars there has always been a TBA/Throttle Body Alignment procedure that you can perform to kinda reset the DBW system and the throttle pedal to throttle body valve angle. I'm not seeing anything in the FSM for the Taco, just vague references to resetting the idle speed via a wide range of actions, some of them almost comedic.

    4R has KO2's in stock size, Taco has KO2's in 265/75r16 which of course would make it a bit more sluggish, but I noticed it even with the original Rugged Trails in 265/70r16. Everything else is 100% stock on both vehicles as far as performance/programming goes.

    So what gives? Did they cripple the Taco? Curb weight on both is within a few hundred pounds of each other so it's not a mass thing. I'm not looking to smoke Hellcats down at the strip, but making the Taco at least as responsive as the 4R would be nice, and I'd really prefer not having to do that with aftermarket bits like ECU flash or Pedal Commander. Similar drivetrains in similar vehicles should perform similarly.

    This all has to do with throttle pedal mapping on the later tacos (12+ I believe) Same applies to later 4 runners. Essentially rather than your 07 4 runners closer to linear throttle pedal mapping, the 15 taco has a curve that ramps up which makes you have to be deep into the pedal before much changes.

    Same here. My 4Runner feels way better than either of my Tacomas. They feel downright lazy compared to my 4runner.

    I swear that setting the Auto Transmission in Gear 4 will obtain the driver some better throttle response off the line (useful for pulling into traffic without a surge of power after moving), at least on the 2011 models and maybe earlier. The response is than regular D-gear and there is a level of variation you can dial in with your foot when pulling out (provided the ground is dry and there is no gravel/dust). I'd be able to tell in 5 minutes of driving a 2012-2015 model if its the same as mine, or if throttle response was otherwise was Nerfed.
