I’m gonna clean the tp tonight, I didn’t think about that. I cleaned it once about 30k and 2 years ago.

There was only one owner before me and I picked it up 2.5 years ago.

It didn’t throw any codes, so I think the throttle plate is a good starting point.
    Thanks for your help guys!

Probably too late at this point. There still may be an underlying serious problem though. Its the reason I asked the OP in my post above to check the recalls.

Here were ToyMoCo's sequence of responses to the fault:
    - First they blamed it on the owners...said they could not figure out where there feet were placed.....
    - Then they blamed it on the floor mats...initially it was the owners again stacking mats or removal of the OEM mats but later revised a part for the clips holding the OEM mats...
    - Then they blamed the accelerator pedal...said it was too long and get caught on stuff...so they started cutting the pedal's length until they could get a shorter part in production...
    - Then, admittedly not knowing what was actually causing the problem they threw up their hands and took a tip from Audi and revised the software so that applying the brakes and accelerator tamed the engine.

Still not knowing the actual cause though Toy enlisted NASA to assist.

In the rush to go "green" it has been discovered that banning and limiting lead from solder was not always a great idea. Lead was replaced in part or whole from solder with tin and tin can grow whiskers that bridge circuits.

That would throw a code though wouldn’t it?

I've worked on Toyotas and Lexus my whole career in various shops and garages.

The first stuck pedal I had was a LS400, it was a stacked mat. (going downhill and I was a young apprentice, fun)

Second stuck pedal was a V6 Camry, it was a stacked mat. (going around a corner, it smoked its tires)

3rd stuck pedal was a Tacoma with weather tech, prior to recall that cut pedals. Weathertech still says no to manual trucks because of this I believe.

4th stuck pedal was a Matrix with Ebay tray mat, by far the worst. Always jammed at 100%

Toyota addressed 99% of the issues with cutting pedals, and pre-loading pedals. Also software overrides as a backup.

They take it very seriously and compared to other manufacturers I think they've done quite well.

I suppose it would throw a code...
My last toyotacar was a 1989 and a 1990 before that.
They have come along way since then, and in some ways not so much....

Today my 2019 trd 4x4 throttle stuck wide open for about 2 or 3 seconds. Luckily i had my foot on the brake. I had been driving at maybe 40 mph , slightly accelerating, then removed foot from gas pedal and started applying brakes as throttle went wide open —-VERY WIERD AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS! My truck has 22k miles on it and should not have sticking throttle body yet should it?
And its not the carpet mat. Everything looks normal around the gas pedal.

I have had the WeatherTech drop-in liners for about 13 years.
I had them in my 2005 PreRunner with Manual Transmission.
I currently have them in my 2007 with Automatic Transmission where they have been in since 2010

Was this the type that you the problem with?
And if so, what should I be looking for to see the pedal “would stick”?

    Mine look like these

I think Weathertech don't do mats for a manual transmission because of the clutch pedal gets hung on the mat.

Reviving this ad this just happened to me getting off the fwy onto a very busy intersection. Scared the scrap outta me.
I tapped the accelerator after stopping the truck while in neutral, did not stop it from redlining, all I could do was turn off the truck. Popped the hood, checked the throttle and cables everything seemed fine. Started the truck again, immediately redlined. Turned it back off. Super generous dude passing by towed me home. 30mins later I go back and start up my truck. It started completely normal. I haven't driven it yet. I'm nervous to do so.
Tmrw ill be cleaning the throttle body and replacing the TPS.
What was everyone's outcomes after trying g whatever they tried to resolve this issue?

You have an 02 according to your profile so you would have a fully mechanical throttle that is pulled by a cable unless it's an 03 or 04 that had the hybrid cable/electronic throttle it can't really be anything other than something holding the accelerator down, the throttle cable binding, the throttle blade binding, or something else physically holding the throttle open.
A faulty TPS on a non-electronic cable operated throttle wouldn't cause the engine to redline unless it was physically getting stuck.

05+ trucks like the ones discussed in this thread are fully electronic throttle control so different scenarios can apply.

Thank you, yes a 2002! When I inspected around the accelerator, there was an issue with the ebrake sleeve, it got mangled and that was wrapped underneath the spring that connects to the accelerator. I'm assuming the was the issue, my cable snapped previously, another person installed it and failed to put the guide wheel and pin back where it belonged causing the ebrake cable to have some slack in it. The sleeve was pretty chewed up. I never checked assuming it was put back together correctly. Mistake on my end.
