I’ve noticed for a while that in my 2000 Tacoma (2RZ-FE), it doesn’t rev to redline (which I assume is about 5500rpm) when I floor the throttle. I poked around and noticed that whether I pull the throttle linkage or press the petal to the floor, my OBDII reader only says it’s at 78% throttle input. Is this something I could fix fairly easily, or would it be best to have a shop do it?

    I have a few thoughts-

I am not sure the reported % is a one for one, and it may have to be calibrated (on the reading side). Ie, the range the truck is seeing is 0-100%, but the reported values in the ODBII might be 10-78%.

    Check throttle cable adjustment.

Could be a faulty Throttle position sensor.

How up to date are you with maintenance? Air filter, MAF, throttle body, injectors, etc

We take it in for regular maintenence (oil every 5k miles), along with getting any other significant issues fixed (exhaust, shocks). It's next service will be the 150k service, and I'm planning on mentioning it.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Maybe the engine is just getting old and tired . Time for a compression test??

Have the valves ever been adjusted ?
