I just purchased a 2011 DC TRD With a six speed and I am wondering how many of you folks have had this problem? I'm sure with this being an actual design flaw, that every truck will have this failer sooner or later.

I have to tell you that I am really pissed right now, as I'm sure that many others are also. Apparently Toyota has known that this has been a major problem for quite some time now. They should have discontinued the manual until they resolved the problem. This is the 7th year of this generation, come on now .

This sucks, I have 350mi. on my truck and want to get rid of it already.

Relax, this is not an issue that affect everyone. I have a '06 4x4 6spd with 47 000 miles and is still going strong. Never had any issue with TOB.

365, glad to hear that they replaced your tranny, but without a change in bell housing design you will most likely have this problem again.

Inouk, I just find it hard to believe that at some point you will not have this issue. 47k is not that many miles.

    Thanks.

This is the reason that I changed my mind and went with the auto. I wanted the 6spd bad, but saw all of the stuff on teh throwout bearing.

There's a third-party fix for this, some people on the forums here have been able to get the dealer to do the install while they were doing warranty work on the trans, so all they had to do was buy the part.

    Thanks AZChris,

I have seen that in some other threads. Hopefully though, Toyota engineers will step up to the plate and come up with a true fix and do a recall. Ha, ha, delusional thinking I know...

IIRC, there is another member or two that has had the throwout bearing problem and the dealer changed the entire bell housing. I'll try to find theat thread.

Let me clarify my last post. When I say the dealer changed the entire bell housing, I should have included that it was for a re-designed bell housing.

From the sounds of it, Toyota still does not have an actual fix for it as of yet. I wonder if they ever will? Perhaps it's just to cost prohibited.

So, stupid question, but how do you know if the throw out bearing is messed up?

You will hear a whining noise from underneath your truck, the worse it gets the louder it gets.

    ah, i see, thanks.

well, havent heard anything yet. steering wheel was a bit shaky today on the freeway, but it's gotta just be the road. but its the first time i felt it ever and i've driven that same road and lane a lot.

sure it's nothing, just being anal about my new truck.

The good news is that you have a three years of warranty, hopefully you won't need it.

    true, very true.

i also got the extended warranty....and normally i NEVER do any of those at all but it was a good deal and it covers EVERYTHING down to the oil changes for five years.

my thinking was, im not worried about the drive train or anything major but more like a/c, electronics etc...

plus, totally off topic but with the way things are going I think we're going to see some inflation in the US soon and an oil change now costs 40 bucks but in a few years might be more.

I don't think that theirs any doubt that inflation is on it's way, the million dollar question is, how high will it be?

Yeah, I'm thinking hyper-inflation with the latest quantitative easing they just did...
