Hi ya'll, Hope everybody's doing great! just reaching out for possible suggestion to locate the issue im having with my truck. I'm driving a 2023 tacoma dbl cab 2023 off road currently sitting at 17,000km. so I've noticed around 8,000km There is a delayed thud/thump sounds that i can hear and feel in driver side when ever i do a abrupt stop. it goes like break, pause, thud (most often while im parking my truck, you know when trying to park you go back and fort with hitting breaks) I also noticed recently since it got colder last couple of weeks (BTW im from canada, so winter can be really cold) thud is more often like it happens every day now. brought truck to the dealer twice when weather was warmer, ofcours when the truck is there the issue wont show up. so they said try to do some more observation. Any suggestion what would cause that sound.

    Thank you in advance.

to help narrow done further,: is the thud after you let off the brake? Could be shoes or pads not sliding/moving smoothly, check brakes to see if they need cleaned and lubed.

hmmm, makes me think it is not brake related.
If you are parking and bouncing off the parking pawl (or whatever it is called) in the transmission, this is not good practice. Try easing off the brake gently and see if that helps.
Sorry, I am out of ideas. Noises over the net (especially W/O video) is tough.

i mean like in tight spaces backing up from a parking spot hitting the break and after truck stopped thats the time it thuds. i Tried breaking very slowly its working during warmer weathers, like the thud appears just once in a while. then when it got colder it is happening more frequent. I am no car mechanic. pls pardon my explanation :)

but i got it book in the dealer hopefully it thuds that time.
and i'll try to film it

    Thanks you,
    Josh

You described a thud when parking, going from forward to reverse.. this is most likely driveline clunk. There is play in the drivetrain and this can cause a clunk when changing directions. This noise is amplified by the hollow driveshaft tube. It's more noticeable on inclines while switching directions.

not exactly. i experience the thud sound after i press the break and the car stopped both in reverse and drive. Reverse or drive (while trying to park in a parking spot) after hitting the break. truck stopped. mili second delayed, then thud sound.

First, check the storage areas under and behind the seat to make sure it is not cargo related.
Then have the mechanic drive it in the morning when it is cold. Sounds like suspension might be funky.

Good ideas being offered up here , also check your spare tire is tight and the chain is tight , also believe it or not , a half tank of gas can make a thump sound when moving back and forth , sounds crazy , but it’s a process of elimination .. you’ll find it

My 2022 did exactly what your describing dealer had field tech look at it and check everything. Everything checked out and was told nothing they could do about it. Was just another quirk of that particular truck. It seems each of these tacomas have their own personality and quirks

Water bottle under seat rolling forward and hitting front seat bracket. Ex-wife paid dealer to find this out.
