I installed a Yakima BedRock system, but not thrilled with it. The Thule will be a better suited rack for what we need.

Anyone here with a 1st Gen that has one of these Thule XSporter racks? Let me know which model you have also - 422, 500, etc. Also, specify how wide those crossbars are and maybe a picture showing how far they extend past the bed sides.

    Thanks!

I picked up the 422 used on CL about 4-5 years ago from a guy who hurt his back, had surgery, and didn't need it to tote around his toys anymore. Had to drive about an hour each way, but grabbed it for $300. Best investment I've made for my '03 DC.

I used to get stopped and asked about my Taco weekly, but not people stop me to ask about the rack system even more! The main plus for me is the ability to remove it. I haul things (mulch, gravel, move things for people) and a truck with a camper shell is nice, but it's just not a truck unless you can utilize the bed. The Xsporter really is the best of both worlds.

Thanks for this. Really good input.

    How long are the crossbars?

Not sure, I'll have to take a measurement when I get home.
