I have a 2015 DC Long bed TRD 4x4. After I stop and then start driving again there is a thump that feels like the truck was in neutral and was just put into gear again. It has a 1 1/2” lift block in rear and Elka struts in front. Could it be the driveshaft?

    Thanks

More than likely it is the rear leaf springs loading up when you stop and then when you let off the brake to go it unloads giving you the thump. Spring wrap is a common term for this. Make sure the spring U Bolts are tightened to 80 FtLbs or so. Under torqued U Bolts have also been a thing.

I think spring wrap leads to more of a shutter on takeoff, what OP is describing sounds to me to be more like a carrier bearing insulator has gone out and he needs to replace his carrier bearing.

    1.5in block just installed.... oy.

Your problem is those blocks and the extra axle wrap they are creating. Remove the blocks and do a rear lift right with a proper leaf pack.

If you must keep the blocks it would probably help to lube the slip joint of the rear driveshaft (being that you are 4x4)

Check you spare tire! I've heard sometimes when not checked they develop some play and will give you that knocking sound. LOL - its worth checking.....

Spare tire is secure. I tightened the spring U bolts (one side wasn’t real tight) but the thump is still there

I don’t see a grease zert on the driveshaft. Is that what you mean by the slip yoke?

Mine is a 2015. The service bulletin from knayrb in the link above covers 2005-2012. Is there also a problem with the 2015 models?

I bet it’s them - they’re notorious for that. I went through it with mine. I did get some replacement ones from SPC but never installed them or sent back the defective ones. So I had to pay but my thump noise went away & or I just learned to live with it. It’s your SPC ucas almost 100% certain. Filing a claim with them is like pulling teeth - Good Luck

There are no grease zerks on the slip yoke. The only way to do it is remove the driveshaft, separate the slip yoke, and grease it up. I've done that twice when I've replace 2 carrier bearings.

Here is the PDF for a 4WD DoubleCab. You can see the universal joint yoke (slip yoke). Other models are similar. The DblCab has a 2 part drive shaft.

Its your slip joint, but again its due to your blocks.

If it were the SPC ucas wouldn’t it feel it in the steering or the front? It does seem to be coming from the rear. I had a new carrier bearing put in when I had the lift installed. I had a vibration and noise and they said it was from the carrier bearing, but it was the needle bearing in the front differential!
