I have an 04 Tacoma SR5 4 cyl. The other day I was coming home from work (on the interstate) when my truck began to make an awful thumping noise like the tire was flat accompanied by a pretty good shimmy in the steering wheel. I immediately pulled over to find everything intact. I took off again and the thump suddenly disappeared and the vibration subsided. My only guess is a belt broken in a tire or simply a bad tire. Tires have about 60K rounds on them but aren't worn too badly. Any suggestions on this annoying phenomenon.
