I have the same kind of “problem”. I just checked the top hats and it’s not like the picture the other member showed with the bushing blown out. My truck has around 700 miles and it’s done it since new. I don’t have the problem with pot holes, just with speed bumps. I chalked it up with the valving and piggy pack resi’s causing the shock to have a poor rebound. Everywhere else the truck is great and rides amazing so it’s just avoid speed bumps or take them carefully

It's good to see the aftermarket addressing this issue with a fix. I'm thinking Toyota is going have to redesign with external bump stops. This seems like a stupid problem that can be easily fixed.

Probably isn't an issue for MOST 4G drivers/owners who won't usually fully cycle the suspension.

Yeah this seems like an immediate recall thing. Easy fix. Supposed to take delivery next week of my OR but it makes me wonder if I should just plan on buying a fix right away rather than risk wrecking my front shocks (not that I'm that hard on our truck).

Interesting, I wonder if the Tundra got the bump stops, I would assume so, since I haven't seen this issue with the Tundra. So first the brake line routing that can't handle mud and requires care to mount a tire, and now a part that has worked from the beginning left off....the hits just keep on coming.

Kudos to those pushing it and finding out the weak spots.

Oh and when I go over the previously mentioned speed bumps one of the backup sensors falls out because they are only taped on. I hope there is a legitimate explanation for this bump stop issue. This truck is really getting embarrassing

Yes. TRD OR Premium. I noticed it since brand new driving home over the speed bumps in my neighborhood. My first thought was Wow...the front end feels really heavy, or the front shocks feel really soft. Bottoms out going over the bumps.

But, I've done some light off-roading over some fairly deep ruts and cobbles, uphill and downhill and didn't notice it bottoming out at all. Still does it over speed bumps. Shocks are fine. Not popped out.

Old sage pops in to these threads to just say its "only a few", transmission, bump stops, whatever it may be.

My SR has the same top hats and they were Hitachi front and rears. Ordered these before I heard of the issues.

Just cheaper design. This is what’s used in most car and suvs. They are built for crawling…malls, but with light unibody frames. The f150 uses this too, so I think the industry is moving over unfortunately. The roads aren’t getting any better though….

The new 4Runner has it too, but the new Lexus stuff has the proper bump stops. Pay up.

Hopefully Toyota recalls this design with a heavier duty top hat. I saw a couple of vids on Toyotas decision to remove the bump stop and make it integral to the shock(poor decision). The new Landcruiser model seems to have retained the bump stops for some reason. The cheap cast retainer doesn't seem to be hold up in some cases.

Toyota wont do anything about this, unfortunately. If they do, I’ll be shocked. I couldn’t handle it anymore and spent the $1,300 on coilovers. Best money spent, hands down. Rides way better and smoother. No more bottoming out. Truck soaks up everything now without jarring your bones.

Unfortunately, I've noticed the same thing; noticed it at like 200 miles, now I go slow over the bumps. It seems like either the rebound is really strong, or the reservoir is causing the issue. I can't figure it out, need a suspension expert to test drive it and chime in.

    Pun intended... lol.

My Off road bottoms out on speed bumps at 10 i can go 50 over in my Tundra with Kings. Probaby not apples to apples comparison but our 2020 Outback Subaru is lifted 2” on stock shocks and can easily go the speed limit 25 over them.
I got the Icon ones. I was considering if they would fit under the mount like that and lift the front 1/2” or so.
