    Hey Guys!,
I am new to this site, not sure how it works. I have a 2017 Tacoma Sport rwd with roughly 63000 miles. I have ran into a problem where when I am driving and I am coming to a stop, when I'm braking and the truck is downshifting(lowers the rpms) I hear a noise change(from the engine I assume) and then I feel a thump its around 5-0mph. I feel it in the back but not sure if it's either transmission or engine. This happens to me 70% of the time. I only use this truck to commute from my house to work. Not sure if this is common for others or if it's an issue?

Make sure your u bolts are torqued to 85ft lb.
    Drive around some.. noise gone?
If not then it's probably axle wrap

If it’s more of a click than a thump, you could be hearing the brake shoes shifting in their mount. If so, you can safely ignore it, albeit people have found ways to secure them better. An internet search should give you results.

TBQH, a majority of the weird noises people report can be safely ignored.

No, it's not gas, I'll look into the u bolts first, I originally thought it could be something with the axle but I want to make sure it's not something else

I also get something like this, though not 70% of the time. Probably more like 5%. It's a quiet but definitely noticeable thump that comes from the back, and I can just feel it in the floor when it happens. I notice it when I've come to a slow stop and then slowly start accelerating again. I feel like I've also had it happen when I move from reverse to forward. It's never with aggressive acceleration, only when gentle, easy acceleration or stopping.

Please update once you've got your u-bolts torqued. I may just go out there and see what the torque is on mine just for fun.

Just for the heck of it, check you storage compartments behind the rear seats.

I agree. A thump upon stopping is probably a loose object in storage.

Half empty bottle of bourbon rolling under the seat. Or half full depending on how you look at it.

Seriously though something is loose and moving.

I initially thought it was the tow hitch and removed it, still makes the noise. I have nothing in the truck or in the storage where the bed is, I removed my bat from the back of the seats, and still makes the noise, put that back in its place lol

check the strapping holding the gas tank. those can rust and are a common replacement item.

This is my guess as long as you have ruled out loose objects

It’s the downshift clunk I bet. Shitty transmission programming combined with some driveline slop. Mines done it since new. Every stop. Feels like I’m being rear ended sometimes. Dealer says normal in my 6-8 visits.
