Whenever I come to a complete stop I hear a thumping noise coming from the underside rear of the truck. I have nothing in the bed of the truck and my mechanic checked to see if my spare tire was loose but was all good. Toyota mechanic couldn't figure it out it's a 2017 Tacoma trd sport anyone have any idea what this could be ?

Do you have a trailer hitch and ball in your receiver? They can thump around sometimes.

I also hear the noise you describe but moreso when I accelerate from a complete stop.

    Work in progress...
I changed my oil and rotated my tires today. I kid you not, I stopped at first stop sign I came to and I heard and felt a big ole thump. I knew that I had triple checked the torque of the lugs? Next stop, no thump?

Or maybe it’s when I come to a complete stop. I’ll follow up you after going for another drive.

Ya the Toyota mechanic drove with me and agreed he heard it but couldn't find a problem and he also suggested it might be gas in the tank. But it doesn't seem right to me.... I don't know ow it's just bugging me Everytime I come to a stop now I'm paying g attention to it.

It is for sure 100% not gas ( at least for my tacoma)honestly it sort of feels like something mechanical is slipping. As if you are coming to a stop and the vehicle wants to keep going, but then the thump happens right has you hit a sweet spot before you come to a full stop.

Do you need to know, or care?
Does it happen more often when cold and slight upcline? Could be axle-wrap, typical on all Tacomas. Happens to mine all the time. Dealer will tell you it's normal.

Everyone says axel wrap for this. Have them grease the slip yoke or drill a hole in the top of the drive shaft to release pressure there.
