Sometimes after a cold start, I've noticed a ticking noise that only occurs at the top end the rpm range just before I need to shift into the next gear. After a little while, the noise disappears. It almost sounds like something could be rattling/vibrating, but I'm not sure. It is an 04 SR5 with 95, 000 miles and the 2.7L engine. Any insight would be appreciated!

the only ticking i ever hear is the lifters, they get worn out and have some play. if it is the lifters, not much you can do, they are hard to get to

if you are getting ticking at 2000-2500 rpm after cold soak there is a tsb for that to replace the manifolds

I also have 2.7 2004......its piston slap, happens in the cooler winter months.....never noticed with my 1997, they must have changed the head design?? The dealer though it was the timing chain, but changing the chain made no difference. After driving for a couple minutes and engine warms up, it disappears. Sure sounds the shits.....have 80000 miles no engine problems...knock on wood
