So I realize this thread went in many different directions, however for anyone who may end up here & wants to know what’s transpired - I ended up clamping off (not just pinching off with pliers, in other words, it was clamped for more than a min) the air assist hose to the IAC. I was checking for air leakage elsewhere around the engine. Then I saw little poofs of smoke from near the right valve cover. Thought I hadn’t placed the clamp far enough out of heat’s way. Nope. It was coming from the exhaust manifold upper flange. Good way to check for leaks there I guess. I wasn’t blowing a bunch of smoke. Exhaust wasn’t loud. I just kept hunting…. Following instinct, clues & advice.
Not looking forward to this job, however hopefully it’ll solve the engine issues.
