Hey y’all, I was wondering if when you come to a stop while driving (light, stop sign, traffic, etc.) and turn your radio and ac off (silent cab) if you can audibly hear your engine ticking? Not a bad sound, just haven’t been able to hear this in other cars I’ve owned. Thanks!

Awesome, thanks dude. Never thought anything of it until my bud asked if they made diesel Tacomas. I was surprised to say the least. Said it sounded like his old 6.7

Odd, mine is very noticeable. It’s similar in volume to having the ac on moderately. When it starts I can hear it over my radio if it’s not too loud and I’m listening carefully.

I would like to add that I can hear it when just started (cold) or warm. Also, it’s not just sometimes, it’s noticeable 100% of the time when I am stopped.

Yeah just talking to other folks, some people have the Taco Tic all the time.

I spoke to a Toyota tech who said it was the lifters resonating through the aluminum block.

The 2011 will do it now and then when idling.

Ah, got it. My friend's 1GR seems to sound nearly identical to my 2GR, fitting they are the same family. I will say, the volume is slightly embarrassing in drive throughs and at stop lights, but it is a small price to pay for reliability.

It still doesn’t stop people wanting to buy it. Everyone always wants to buy my 2011. They ask me what year is it and they can’t believe it’s that old from the condition of it.

I would not worry about it. just keep the preventative maintenance up on it.

Maybe it is an elevation, fuel blend, break-in, etc that varies making the tic more audible.

Just tell people it is a diesel mod.
