Looking for some ideas for loops for the factory holes at the tail gate end of the bed. I imagine Toyota has something standard I could get but I’m also wondering if anyone has put anything different, better, more versatile there? I’m removing the brackets for the bed extender as soon as I can get the rusty the screws to come out and am installing a drawer system. And would like to stabilize the drawers off of those loops among other things. Thanks!

Do they not have loops? I don't have a 1st gen specific solution for you but the older trucks (Hilux, Truck, Pickup) had them and they really are handy. Perhaps you can find a set and use them? This is what the ones on my 1991 looked like.

Or are you asking about replacing them with something? I'm not totally sure what you're after.

You could get some bed stiffeners. I know they don't bolt on to the stock points, but if you are building a drawer system then these wouldn't be in the way. I believe there are a few other vendors that make them for 1st gen.

I don’t have tie down hooks in that area. I am wanting to put some in. I have bed extender brackets that I am struggling to remove due to rusty screws.

I don't know, I got a MAC one on a traded welding job from a friend who's a MAC salesman several months ago, I haven't even opened it yet. I've used the one my dad has several times, he has one from the 70's.

The thing is if those are JIS fastners into the bed unless you have JIS bits they are just going to twist out.

I have a Snap On impact driver I used it a few times years ago back in the eighties

I got mine out and had my hooks powdercoated and replaced the screws with stainless hex heads.

Junkyard? Put a want ad in the buy sell section, I’m sure someone has some they took off.

Ultimately both. I would like to use a head head or socket head screw though to make removal easier in the future.

new OEM screws are approx 90c each or very close to it depending source
i just snugged mine back in once i got them free for the Line-X, did not torque them back in hard, can still remove with standard screwdriver so far
they were difficult to remove without proper tool, one stripped on first attempt and ended up having to break it off and its still stuck in there

That’s why I went back with socket head, I messed a couple of the heads up on mine getting them out.
