I understand zip ties break off but I don't have a clamp to use before my trip this weekend. If I use a zip tie, should it be snugged down just a tad, or so I want to darn tight when I tighten it? Also not familiar with these very much, is it safe to assume that if my other side is proper (currently has a clip), then the location of where it sits can be mirrored?

A zip tie is more than enough, some people use worm clamps but they tend to damage the boot.

Your boot is already holding in oil from the rack that is leaking, so I'd zip tie it and plan on changing the rack down the road one day.

    A hose clamp works well.

I replaced one of my rack boots. I used zip ties on both sides, but on the rack side I used two to secure it tighter. No issues here.
