Tie Rod Nightmare on 2015

    Ok im looking for some advice i put a 6" lift on my 2015 DCSB 4wd and the kit requires 18" wheels. I was able to get away with keeping the wheels i had on it because of how offset they are (17" Helo wheels with -12 offset)

    However, there is a TIGHT gap between the inside lip of my rim and the tie rod end. Im thinking about spending a couple hundred bucks on wheel spacers vs getting 18" wheels.
    Any advice is appreciated thank you all in advance.

    Dang that doesn't look good.
    I think you answered your own question though..
    If 1.25" spacers are enough to push the wheel out to clear them then do it. Check out BORA spacers made by Motorsport Tech.

    Putting big spacers on wheels that have significant offset will be putting a lot of strain on your wheel bearings. I'd suggest the 18s as recommended by the lift manufacturer.

    Some suggest it outs stress on the bearings, some suggest it doesn't. I have been running some bora spacers for a long time in the front and they have not done one bit of damage to the bearings, and I am very hard on my truck.

    Spacers will work fine. They do put added stress on parts, but as stated above, members have been running them on all types of truck for years with no issues

    Many people run spacers with no problems. OP is already running lots of backspace, so spacing them out further will add stress to the bearing - whether or not he has premature failure will be determined by time. I simply stated that I wouldn't do it. He asked for opinions.

    Yeah but offset and backspacing are two different things. He only stated his offset. I don't know what his backspacing is, but be aware that Toyota from the factory fits what I believe is 6.5" backspacing on their TRD Baja rims.

    I think the most I'd probably go is around 7" BS, any more than that and I would not. A good offset would be -6 if I recall correctly.

    Back spacing and offset are two ways of measuring the same thing...
    Toyota OR wheels are 5.25" iirc, and the less bs you have the further the wheel sticks out. Ie a 4" bs wheel will sit 1.25" out further than a 5.25" bs as long as the wheel widths are the same.

    You may be right about that. I hate dealing with wheels and all that so I don't do a whole lot of reseach when it boils down to it.

    My wheels and tires are brand new and i really dont want to go out and buy bigger rims and new tires. I think ill take some measurements and see about spacers this friday when im off.
    Id like to run these 17s because im a "small wheel big tire" kinda guy
    I really appreciate all the help and input fellas.
    Im conscerned about the tie rod end making contact with the rim. Will this gap between the rim and tie rod end ever increase due to upward/downward travel?
    I live in louisiana and we dont do rocks here. My truck is a daily driver and i play in the mud quite often. Only time my truck does any flexing is on logs, tree stumps, ditches, ect.

    Yeah, they can get tricky when you're changing diameters and widths, and backspacing. Then tire sizes..

    From the pics it looks like you'd be alright with 1.25 spacers.. Just measure and imagine your wheel moved outward to see if it'll clear. You can also get 1.5" spacers too.

    Anything over 1" will help tremendously.

    And to answer your question OP, no the dynamic movement of the suspension during up and downtravel will not be a factor as the hub distance both horizontally and vertically will never change its position from where the wheel is.

    I really dont like the idea of the tires sticking out the side but id its what i have to do then so be it.
    Im going to try to get away with putting the smallest spacer possible

    I think 1.25" is the smallest you can go without cutting part of the studs off. With 1.25" spacers on factory OR wheels, my 265's sit about flush with the fender flares.

    i have 285/70/17s and they stick out about an inch past the fenders. what do you mean "the smallest you can go without cutting part of the studs off?" why would i have to cut the studs?
