Pay the deductible. Be done with it honestly. That's what insurance is for. They'll work with you on it. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Plus if you have rental coverage in your policy you'll have a ride to drive around in while it's getting repaired versus paying another bill out of pocket. Rental adds up too pretty quickly. That's all included in the 1k deductible you have now as long as it's on your policy. As others have said, there may be more damage than you can see and they won't fully know until they start digging into it. The person who runs the estimate will more than likely just do a visual inspection of what he/she can see. I work for an insurance company, not in claims or adjuster, but I see a lot of what goes on.

Edit: I would strongly advise against doing it in your backyard though for sure. It's a brand new 40k truck. Do it right the first time and that way you know it's done properly.

Sorry about your new truck! Can we see the pic of the porta potty deerstand that caused all of this?

Not going to do a backyard repair at all. Only way to get it done is the right way.

Sounds good  One of the pole choices was a backyard repair so that's why I mentioned it. I figured you were joking around, but some people here really would try and beat it out with a hammer. FYI, I voted insurance route.

I spoke with a friend who suggested I drill it out, place a big washer on the far side and pull on it. Just because his truck is 15 years old and that worked for him, doesn't mean it'll work for me.

ouch, yeah there's no way in hell that would happen with any of my vehicles regardless of age. Even if you did do that, you're left with a hole now that wasn't there before. So then you have to fill it and repaint which would make it worse than it was from the start.

Picture of my truck with that bastard pole in the background. Pictures of glorious stand as well.

Waiting on an estimate currently. Guy was pretty optimistic. I also double checked insurance and found out that I only have a $500 deductible. Most likely getting insurance involved...

    Go for it.
Double check if they truly cover the rental if the labor takes longer than 6days.

And that 6 day estimate, hopefully includes the time it takes to bring the new parts in. Shipping brand new truck parts may be a PIA.

    But definitely go for it.

Seems reasonable. Might seem like a stretch to save $800, but bear in mind estimates often grow when the truck is actually in the shop and being repaired, what is an $800 savings today might be twice that tomorrow.

    Money well spent.

Forgot to mention, deductible is actually $500. I was mixed up with collision which is $1000.

Yea, $1300 +rental is worth it.

For me 1800 is close enough that I may want to pay out of pocket.

Well shoot. Insurance doesn't cover rentals. Apparently I had to add that on as something different. Looks like I will be borrowing a vehicle and making due. Maybe renting. Enterprise shows less than $200 after taxes to rent the car. Do they do the uHaul deal where they charge by mile as well?

You can see if the body shop provides rentals.

Or switch to a body shop that does.

This one has an enterprise right in it. Or are you saying that they will provide the rental for the cost of the repair included? For what it is worth this is at a Caliber Collision. Don't know if anyone else would be able to come out for less on estimates.

Not sure how it works at that shop, but some of the body shops in my area provide no charge loaners.

Just tossing that out as an option to see if that's a possibility for you.

Usually dealers with collision shops offer decent loaners. Plus you'd know that genuine OEM stuff has been used
