Tight Fit - Garage Parking Aide

Well... I knew it before hand but my Taco is a pretty tight fit in my garage length wise. I have a 3 car garage so width is not a problem. (*insert that's what she said zinger)

So aside from the tennis ball on a string trick, are any of you guys using some other parking aide to get your truck parked in the garage? If so, can you share?

Tight length wise? I just use the lines on the back up camera and the wall which gives me enough room to close the garage door. This truck is actually longer than the previous gen by 4-5 inches. It's that bumper underbite further worsen by putting the license plate bracket.

 

We have a couple of these setup. They do the trick.

Just keep in mind that it's an aide and you'll still have to use throttle control to get the red light to show up exactly when you want to stop. I can get my license plate within an inch of hitting the small stair case that I have to pull all the way up to.

 

I might need this. I used the wall and the back up camera lines to park the truck this past weekend but I forgot I put the plates on and the garage door didn't clear the license plate bracket.

 

Thanks guys. I have been using the back up camera as well but I find it a pain the ass to have to keep putting it in reverse to do so. I know... first world problems. HAHA.

I just installed a front camera to go along with the HAI cable. Pretty freaking stellar.

The tennis ball trick is great, as long as you always come in at the same angle. We have an odd shaped driveway, so that isn't a guarantee.

The issue in my garage is width. What I did before the camera was get the truck right where I want it, then spray paint a line on the floor where I want the front tire to be and a lateral line where to stop.

The paint will come up with a pressure washer if I need to.

It could work for the bumper. Just sloooowly coast into it and back of a scosche.

I have this attached to the floor with masonry screws for the Wife's car. I can't use this on the Taco's side of the garage since it is in a different spot if I use my motorcycle or not.

 

I have literally 2" on either end to spare in my garage. I'm going to mount a convex mirror up front to let me pull up close as I can (which is right in front of our furnace).

 

The one you linked seems to just put a dot on your dash. You'll need to know when to stop based on when the dot gets to a certain point on your dash. Right?

The one I linked works like a stop light with a radar on it. As you get to your pre-set distance, the lights change from green to yellow to red. You can re-calibrate at any time.

One thing to note, if you're want to mount the kit I linked to on the same wall that you need to drive up to, just keep in mind that you need a couple feet from the sensor to where your truck will stop. Meaning, you can't have a wall you need to butt up against AND have this device installed on it. It won't read it as you get closer than a couple feet to it. Hope that makes sense. Take a look at the manual (you can probably find it online) for a better explanation.

Years ago my dad had gotten ahold of the round markers in the street. Put two in front and row behind the front tire and once you went over the hump you were good.

 

Guess I low tech and cheap on this one. Had a family member stop me in the right spot and then put a scrap peice of 4x4 wood post in front of the left front wheel, now I just pull in slow until the tire hits the block.

 

I use a 4x4 under the left front tire. A buddy had this in his garage but I haven’t found one similar.

 

I use my backup camera. Gets me inches from the wall every time

 

Wanted my truck backed into my garage. So.
Fluorescent Pink spray Marking paint on floor behind truck. Backed my truck into the garage until the door just closed. Put broom handle on floor and checked my entune reverse screen. Then moved the handle until it matched up with one of the lines showing on my backup screen. Drew a fat line on the concrete floor with the pink marking spray paint. As long as I back in far enough that the mark on the floor is just past the mark showing on my camera screne. I am good to push the button on my automatic door closer. Knowing that it is not going to come down on my hood. Worked great for well over a year now.

Cool guys. Few options. I thought of just going really low tech and putting a 2x4 down on the ground with velcro. I wanted to see if there are slicker options without spending an arm and leg.

I tried the parking stop under one tire, like the yellow and black one posted, but it hits or miss. I'm on a cul-de-sac so my driveway is oddly shaped. It's also on an incline so I lose side of the stop quite a distance from it. A wider one would work for sure.

I like the option @poopshute posted but I need to make sure i have enough clearance from the wall I would mount it to for it work properly. I have about 18" I think. Sounds like a lot but I need to leave this much room so you can get around the front of the car to access the one side of the garage.

 

i cut a scrap piece of 4x4 diagnally and caulk it to the garage floor.
its cheap and been using it for years. i have only kicked it once with
my big toe.
