Tightening the Sway Bar Link Bushings on a 1998 Tacoma

    I've had to replace three sway bar links on my truck. Each time when I torque the new bushings to the specs in the manual, the bushings squish down until they look like the lower one in this photo (which I boosted from Apoiyay's posting, sorry):

    Flat as a washer, and hard as a rock! In the future I'll tighten them until they start to compress, then about one full turn more. Does that sound about right, or should I continue to tighten them to spec?

    That approach definitely sounds reasonable, especially given your personal experience with the bushings.
    Are you replacing with OEM type bushing or poly?

    I use the Raybestos "Pro" from Rock Auto. They are rubber, not plastic. But the shaft is still weaky-weaky thin like the OEM shafts.
