If you are talking to me, yes I'm still coming. Bill probably does a better job than me, but between the two of us we can find the way.

Ronda Shelby said that its going to be nasty this weekend... I generally trust Ronda's forecast. I don't mind the mud but the rain sucks. Would be nice for a clear fall day wouldn't it? Is that too much to ask?

    Hey mike,

    What makes a trail severe 1, 2 or 3?

Not sure what you mean. TSF has easy, moderate, and 3 levels of difficult. I'm not sure what the determination factors are, but single black is the max for me.

Utah is the only other place I've been with ratings, and their moderate barely touches TSF's easy rating.

I would expect that if we are meeting up at 9, we will arrive between 9:45 to 10. Meet us at the lower staging area:

    FROM THE SOUTH
    Take HWY 6
turn right on Saddle Mountain Road, just after the ODOT parking area/buildings
go up the gravel road until it makes a T intersection.
    take a left
    park next to the outhouses.

^^ google maps refers to this as 'FBI Rd'.

I'm referring to the 3 levels of difficult. Word of mouth is that some of the trails labeled 2 are really not even 1's and yet some 1's are now pretty much a 3...

Going to be a long day!

hard to tell, depends on how the trail has changed since the sign went up and how much traffic it sees. Lower FB 5 used to be simple in 2006, got gnarly in 2009, and is now pretty easy again. Rocky uphill was a bit too much for me to complete this summer, but they've apparently changed the upper section to make it easier. You kind of have to check it out, but you can expect certain things:

Hog's back is a quick climb
FB5 upper is a long rock garden with smaller rocks for mid travel rigs
cedar tree, power line, and university firepower are more trail-based with tight corners
archer's is the longest and offers the best overview

I got it covered yo. see the previous page.

If we ran Archer's north to south in the wet, you might think different. one section becomes a long slip n' slide down the hill that can be unnerving for some
