Timbren Rear Springs Need Help

    Hello, quick question. Recently sold my 03 Tacoma and upgraded to 07 with 96k. Love the truck and just purchased light weigh travel trailer (2200 lbs). Pulled it home and noticed how low the rear was sitting so I ordered the timbren kit. Put one side on, lowered the truck and found the frame was touching the timbren with the truck unloaded (does have Leer camper top but otherwise empty). I know its possible I was sent the wrong kit for my truck and also possible that my rear springs are in such bad shape they need to be replaced with a heavier duty (wheelers or the like). I installed wheerlers 5 pack and 5100 on my previous 03 so I know that's an option but wanted to make the stock suspension work for a while.

    I took a pic of the truck sitting on the timbren for reference. Has anyone else installed these and there not been a gap with an unloaded truck?

    I have a similar issue with my 07 long bed and I am running the All Pro standard 3" springs and a shell. I still have about a 1" gap before the bumps hit the frame. I will say this though, I load it down with probable 300-400 pounds of gear and the frame ends up riding on the timbrens with very minimal sag. They really do seem to absorb the extra load well. I opted for this set up instead of an expedition pack because All Pro suggested there expedition pack rides very stiff without substantial weight in the bed. I have a buddy with the same set up and he is running the Dakar leaf pack and he has like 3 inches between the bump/frame. I figure if I start rolling around with a consistent load in the bed I may swap out the pack but for now this set up has been fine.

    For what its worth I ran the stock springs with airbags when I pulled my trailer. They works out awesome but when I sold the trailer and start doing more off road trips I opted to remove them and go with the current setup.

    Your springs look like they are flat. Does this year truck fall into the leaf spring replacement program with Toyota?

    From what I understand, the timbren kit isn't supposed to help with rear sag. They're just upgraded bump stops. You'd need something like Firestone airbags back there

    Thanks for the replies. Not sure about the leaf spring replacement, I called the dealer and they told me to bring it in and they would evaluate.

    I considered airbags but thought these would be more durable and worry free.

    I guess my question is should I leave the timbrens on like they are, riding on the frame or wait until I can replace the rear springs? Should they be touching the frame with an unloaded truck?

    Your stock springs are just flat. Not sure it's going to hurt anything but I'm not sure Timbrens designed to be engaged and flex all the time like a helper spring or airbags, it may wear them out faster. They are bump stops that aren't as abrupt as factory rubber blocks. In lifted & long travel applications they are taller to prevent the leafs from going too negative, which is stressing on the springs.

    This has nothing to do with the timbrens, this has to do with your leafs. Swap out to a different pack. I would suggest Dakars if you have 100ish lbs in the bed, all pro expos with 200-300 lbs in the bed.

    Yeah, if your rear end is sagging that much with only a camper shell on, you should get new leaf springs.
