Still smooth sailing, voltage is good, cranks a little slower now that the temperature has dropped but other than that seems fine. What’s the consensus? I do travel a bit to very cold areas and don’t have a garage so curious if now a a good time to replace before I get stuck.

You got your moneys worth out of it - batteries usually fail at inconvenient times.

My favorite brand is DEKA/East Penn Mfg, made right in Pennsylvania.
NAPA brand batteries are made by EPM.

5 years? Duh. Chalk up a win and buy a new one - Walmart NeverStart ( ever start ) is as good as anything else for the price.

If you have a battery maintainer put it on the new battery until you install it.
Batteries generally ship about 80% charged, a day or two on the maintainer gets your new battery off to a good start.

Two units to consider are NOCO Genius 1 or a Deltran Battery Tender.
Both brands are tech leaders and well established with good reputations.
Either model is easily available at online, your local auto parts store or The Mart for around $30.

The NOCO unit has more functions, the Deltran is slightly easier to use, I have several of both and they have given good service.

When you bought it, did you get a lifetime battery? I just replaced mine at 80k and got lifetime for as long as you own the vehicle the battery is replaced for free.

A load test is the proper way to answer this question. If the battery is weak, a quality load tester will identify that. I've seen batteries last 10 years. I've also seen brand new batteries fail a week after install. Load testing in the only definitive way to check their integrity.

My 2018 battery was finally replaced a month ago at 65k miles.

It also was getting a little slow with the cold front, so I took the multimeter to it. A good battery should read 12.6V after the car has been shut off for more than an hour, and should be replaced if its below 12.2. Mine was 12.3, which was borderline. Then I did the engine start test, where a good battery should never drop below 10V when cranking the engine. Mine was right at 10.0V on the first start, 9.9V on a second start 15 minutes later.. So yeah, it got replaced.:anonymous:

In retrospect, it was easier to swap the battery at the store when you drove it there instead of having to carry it.

Damn. Replaced my 2019 OEM last summer. Started cranking a bit slow for a couple of days then boom, dead. 55K.
