Time for a new motor

My 3.4 out of my 98 4x4 5 speed is done. Tons of leak by and low compressions
I need a used motor
What years should I look for
Will a motor out if an automatic 4runner work

 

any 3.4 will work, I would suggest looking around for reman short block if your heads are still good.

I can find used motors for 400 to 600 with 130 to 200k miles

 

Valves leaking on mine

 

If you can take the heads off and look, and see what condition the cylinders are in it might be worth it to buy used. And damn I wish I could find a used 2.7 for that cheap.

 

If the heads are in good condition on the used engine it would be worth it because you cant find used heads for that cheap.

 

Rebuild if there still good. If mine ever goes out im going reman just a piece of mind for me

Man!!! I wish I could find a 2.7 for that the cheapest I can find one for is around $1,200 and that's with over 200,000 miles on it. Best of luck with your engine purchase
