Agree, here and bimmerpost are the most engaged communities. The Audi forums are fairly quiet. It also depends on what model forums you frequent as well. Tacomas have a rare combination of appeal across a wide age range; whereas, you cruise around the Audi Q7/8 forums and it's just a bunch of us old dudes talking about how best to fit car seats in the back.

I’ll just add that most car vloggers or YouTube types are a lot like auto journalists — they can’t be totally frank because they rely on working relationships with auto manufacturers’ PR people to get press cars. Most are unwilling to pay for a demo vehicle. And yeah, you’re keeping them flush by reposting and clicking these TFL videos, so they’ll be even more incentivized to do apples-to-oranges content.

I recommend only of of these YouTube personalities, “savage geese,” because he and his colleague will rent the car themselves if the PR team doesn’t like what he’s been doing. He’s about as honest as you’ll get. He also lifts the car up and talk about the engineering. His bias is track-oriented, so he’s useless for most TW people looking for a blow-by-blow on off-roading stuff.

I suck at off-roading, so I’m sure I could make that Jeep and that Ranger suck too.

100% agreed minus buying the ranger lol. Toyota does have re-think their approached with their trucks. They are falling behind, and it will cost more to catch up to be relevant, which means higher costing trucks.

Everyone gets caught up in Toyota’s marketing too. The reason their is dealer markups is because Toyota doesn’t mass produce trucks like other manufacturers. They do this for a reason, less inventory more demand equates to less markdowns.

Stangnet.com and Coloradofans.com are the main ones I've been a part of (outside of here and 4Runners.com) and none have been as fun and engaging as here. I never explored the first two as much, but still. It's also nice to escape politics and talk trucks.

Toyota has been resting on its reliability laurels for a looooong ass time now. All their truck platforms are ancient. Their full-sized SUVs and the 4Runner are ancient. Their engines are still naturally aspirated. I mean, I guess I don't mind since I did spend my money on a Toyota specifically because it was reliable. But if you want the latest and greatest tech, or even passable tech, Toyota is pretty disappointing. One example: the camera system in the Tacoma is so bad. So so bad. And it's sad to see the same really bad camera system all the way up to a 90k Land Cruiser.

That's exactly it. Toyota will never be cutting edge. But that's not their point. Many other brands have their own version of crawl control, even. It wasn't until 2020 that the Tacoma had a power seat option and Android Auto/Apple Car Play

I keep seeing posts about Toyota “neutering” the Crawl Control on the newer trucks. Do any of you know what they changed? I have a ‘17 and mine works great. Seems to get a lot of hate on here, but it’s always performed well for me in the right situations.

I have been on Stangnet for at least the past 15 years, good forum but definitely not as engaging as here.

I completely agree Toyota needs to step up their game. When the 3rd Gen came out there was much less mid sized competition than now with Jeep and Ford jumping back into the market. They will need to compete or see their market share erode.

Unfortunately I haven't really had reason to go there much since I stopped driving my Mustang in 2016. I still miss that car, but I do know where it is at!

According to Seatbelt Mike when the 3rd Gen came out the hands down most important thing the buyers of Midsized truck category was QDR (Quality Durability Reliability). It seems he is correct in the fact that the Tacoma has enjoyed record sales, maybe the demographics will shift in the future and gadgets will outweigh that but its hard to say Toyota is falling behind.

I completely agree. I don't think they should have been black listed for it

Ford was stupid for that. How are they gonna be mad when they're driving it on public roads with barely any camo? They expect people to not take pics?

If its 2 weeks before Christmas and you leave the gifts on the table, the kids are gonna take a peek.

If you dont want people taking pics of it, keep it off public roads or put some more camouflage on it.

Anyone who is serious about truck performance doesn't give a shit about cameras.

They released photo's from the Bronco plant which included detailed pictures of the interior and stuff like that. I don't agree with what Ford did but that was their reasoning.
