    Hello TW,

I most lurk around and look at build threads, but I had my truck at Right Toyota today in AZ and the Service Advisor that’s handling my service advises that I need to do my 4x4 service @ $189.00. I’m decently mechanically inclined, but unfortunately it appears I’m not too good with the search function. Im looking for a How-to to do the flush myself at home. Can someone link me to a DIY? Has anyone done it?

Thanks in advance. Have a great weekend!

How many miles do you have on the truck? And do you often tow? I’ve herd some dealerships trying to have a 4x4 service done at 30k miles and honestly is not needed unless your doing some very heavy towing

 This where the service manager assigned to be your personal rep comes out to the customer waiting lounge to see you. He brings an air filter with him and says it is from your truck. It is very clean yet and says even though it would normally need changing now , he advises to wait another 5000 miles because they do not believe in doing a service not needed . Then with a pause he says , the highly recommend ???? service should be done . This was determined by the interview they had with you when you arrived . The service needed depended on your age, sex, credit rating , style of dress and how you speak.
Just like the car salesperson , they read you and made an educated guess what they can fleece you for .
Ya gotta love car salespeople . Remember the service is a highly profitable part of the biz .
PS No offense if you are a personal rep or a salesperson , it is your job .:headbang:

Edit , you did right by asking here ! You are more likely to get the truth if it is needed or not .

I have just crossed 30k so far. I live in AZ so I spend a good amount of time up north on fire roads and at Butcher Jones. No towing of any kind ever. If I was to be super paranoid, what do y’all recommend mileage wise? 50k?

That makes sense. I tried typing in all sorts of various of “differential maintenance” and couldn’t find it.

Do it at 50k, I’ve seen some trucks never have them done and still going 150k miles strong. I’m heavy on services to baby my truck and I wouldn’t do it until 50k unless I’m doing serious towing at which point I’m already running the Tacoma tranny:bored:

I’m about to do my front and rear diffs, all the research I’ve done leads me to believe a transfer case drain and fill isn’t quite needed at 50-60k miles. I’m at a hair over 70k so I’ll do the diffs and be done with it. Called TOYOTA and they wanted $579 to do TC and diff oil changes. Along with engine oil change and an alignment... which is what they called a 60k mike service. For $579 I’ll just do it my self since I just had an alignment done 5k ago.
