Why are there so many self-affirmation threads in the 3rd gen forum?

I just bought an 18 and have 1000 miles on it and honestly the whole time ive had it ive wondered what all the bitching was about, now I know everything is subjective, but I haven't had a single complaint with it

I’m calling bullshit, maybe if you do off motor trends stats, my taco isn’t faster than 1st gen raptor and certainly doesn’t have close to the torque

Pull a 3100 lb travel trailer 1,800 miles and have the transmission gear down to third at 70 mph going up a slight grade with the tach reading nearly 4500 rpm and you question the transmission programming. I realize that is where the power is but I hate running at that high rpm. It did well in fourth at about 3,000rpm for the majority of the trip. This is my first experience to tow a TT with a 6 cylinder.

We got back Saturday night with the odometer showing 9,700 miles. Driving the next day without the TT was a dream. I do have a SSP. I believe the transmission is shifting better and I am becoming more tolerant of its operation.

I was ready to dump this truck after the first 1,000 miles and a month for a Canyon. I came out of a 2014 Ram Limited with everything Ram offered and a 2016 Wrangler 2 door Hard Rock to a DCSB TRD Off Road and miss the luxury. Now we like the Tacoma so we’ll that I keep looking at a new Limited Tacoma. I’m in my sixties and appreciate luxury. The lack of power seats will probably keep me in my TRD.

The 2016 Tacoma is currently the best truck I own, no doubt in my mind.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking- it's also the only truck I own, but that is besides the point....

    It's obvious.

Still breaking in my 18, but so far the transmission feels much more sorted out than the 17s I test drove. A quick pedal stab from cruising in 4th seemed to take 3 seconds to decide which gear to downshift into. Not so with the 18. Could certainly be mind over matter, but it doesn't seem to hunt for gears like the 17s did. We'll see what happens pulling the camper in a few weeks...

Modern big V8s make power all over the power band.

Probably because they want to justify their purchase on a$40k truck! Ive been there, but the truth is the truck drives like absolute crap! Ive had many many trucks and vehichles in general and i didnt realize how bad this truck drove on the test drive because i drove it modestly but as soon as a few days went by i realized this truck shifts and drive really bad! Long story short i bought the OVTUNE and im happy and this truck drives beyond normal and is actually fun and my mpg improved. Some are happy with it stock let them be!

Sure enough it takes about 10k! It finally...finally does not hunt all over when on cruise control....a small breeze does not cause a downshift. Maybe Toyota has been listening to the Ten Thousand Hours song a bit too much.

What does it matter as long as he enjoys how it drives?

No shifting issues for me . 56k miles and I just got back from a road trip from Georgia to San Diego and back . I don't mind the mpg (around 13mpg with the bed rack and rtt plus loaded down with gear).
