My 2017 F150 works the same, moving while not under load is the quickest and smoothest way. What you see as an annoyance, is actually the system waiting for the right time to engage, rather than the stupid human forcing it with the lever. If you don't like modern vehicles, don't buy em, it's just that simple.

Yea, the "lag" is the computer literally keeping you from harming the 4x4 system.

Yikes..... I didn't wanna give bad info. Went and checked. You were right, it is on the visor card. Didn't realize there would be a difference between the AT/MT for this function.

    Thanks for pointing it out

The system takes longer than you would expect to engage under normal conditions, definitely.

Fair enough Dryfly24. I will take notice of how it operates under different situations. Thought I'd ask drivers with more expereince with Tacos than I to see what was normal for them...wasn't necessarily complaining about my truck or insulting others. It's just different than I had experienced with previous vehicles.

He's not complaining he is just asking if others experience the same thing and if it's normal. I'm not sure why people are saying he should get a ridgeline when he is literally just asking a question. The Jeep was brought up to tell us his past experience with 4wd systems.

Jeeps also catch on fire for no reason at all, so take it with a grain of salt. Maybe the light in your jeep was malfunctioning?

Ha just kidding dude. Being serious, every 4WD rig I've had has a slight delay when lining up the gears in the transfer case, even old school rigs. It can help it engage faster if you let off the gas a bit while it's engaging, but all in all, it's just doing it's thing.

Be happy you no longer own a Jeep

Yes, I got that clearly from his well written response. You know, which he wrote himself...

Maybe a second or two at most but I always use it like every other weekend when I’m off driving on fire roads or in the desert with wifey.

If my use is based on snow, I sure as hell hope I don't have to use it too much! But I'll use this as an excuse to find places to play more often I guess.

If you get some good snow tires and some weight in the bed you'll barely have to use 4hi on city roads etc. I've used mine 4-5 times only so far this winter

I put a new set of Duratracs on it. Will try loading it up with some extra weight and see how it feels.
