I forgot to mention that I picked up an iphone app to help with the planning part of TL. It's called "MILapse" and available on the App Store. No idea if it works on droids.

In case you're wondering, MILapse stands for "Michigan Timelapse".

The program helps you determine settings for OpenMoco controlled devices (like the Dynamic Perception motion controller). It also allows you to determine how much memory you'll need to shoot a particular sequence (per shot, number of cards and when to change them). It gives you settings for motion (pan, tilt, left-right) too.

If you want to include astrological features, like the Milky Way, you can also find an app called "Star Walk" to help with that.

    that was 500 shots?

What frame rate did you use? Seemed like it was only 10 secs long.

I need to use premier, i have just been using quicktime pro to do my time lapse. Its pretty easy, pick the folder with your images, set your frame rate and it does the rest.

There's a free plugin for Light Room that will let you assemble time lapse stuff. Seems to work well. When I get home, I'll look for it.

^^Will be very interested to hear what this is and what it is capable of.

I've only used QuickTimePro and iMovie thus far. Here's one of my first takes from earlier this year. A couple of the scenes had some flickering/exposure issues.

Although the thought was more for a remote release and long exposure timer, but will have to try some time lapse eventually. Gonna need to stock up on CF cards now LoL.

There are a couple of components you need to get. All will be explained in the download section.

Also, it looks like it's there's a PP donation button if you find the software useful.

And one more. Very similar with regard to the templates you need.

    http://lrbplugins.com/shop/presets/lrb-timelapse-presetstemplates/

    Hope that's helpful!

Can I ask what setup you are using? And how many shots a second are you taking?

I use a Nikon D7000 which has a built in intervalometer. Most of my shots varied between 4 and 8 second intervals...especially when clouds were the only thing moving in the scene. The speed of the clouds dictated what interval i chose. For lower clouds that appear to have a faster motion I would choose 4 second intervals, and I would trend toward 8 second intervals for higher clouds that "appeared" to be moving slower. The traffic/street scenes used much faster intervals...1 or 2 seconds, I can't remember. But of course you have to remember for those night traffic shots I was using a slower shutter speed around 1/4 sec.

I am still new at it and experimenting, but most of the time I would shoot 180 to 360 shots. So a shot every 4 seconds x 180 shots comes out to 720 seconds (12 minutes) of shooting. When I import that into QuickTimePro at 24 frames per second, it gives me a video length of (180/24) 7.5 seconds. You can experiment and build off of that depending on what is moving in your scene. Hope that answers your question.

I decided to fire up the camera again tonight...I've got some good cloud coverage with a 3/4 moon peeking out every now and then. I'm doing a 2500 shot shoot this time around. I figured if 500 shots got me around 16 seconds then 2500 shots should net me around a minute or so of footage. :)

Was gonna do a long exposure tonight of the C-130 but the clouds went away and there's too much light pollution for stars. :( Doing a bulb shot on my truck now.... coming out pretty damn awesome so far! Using the flash for some creative lighting :)

Can't wait to see what you capture tonight :)

Well it wasn't that great...I caught way to much light bouncing off the back wall of the house from cars turning into the neighborhood. This would have turned out pretty cool had there not been so much light. Oh well...It's alright but not really something that I am completely satisfied with.

I only was able to snag about 1200 shots. Didn't realize the camera battery was dying. I was aiming for 2500 shots but I was still able to get about 40 seconds worth of usable video. Hopefully I can get something this weekend out near the Observatory.

Here is the video...like I said the lights bouncing off the rear wall of the house really takes away from it.

You could probably cut the house out in a layer and batch process it out since nothing else on the house is dynamic. Might take a little bit :D

I put my pics up in live. I tonemapped it for some stupid reason. Suddenly I don't like the photo anymore... LoL Both versions are up.

I was at it again last night! :D I think this is my best one so far. I'll have the video up soon. I arrived late and they are quick to kick everyone out at 10 over at Griffith Park. So I am going to try another tonight from a different vantage point but I plan to arrive a little earlier! lol

Well here is the video from last night...I realized that I really need to up the bit-rate on the final encoding so I could get a better quality video since it loses a lot of when you upload to Youtube. I didn't put it up on vimeo because they will lower it to 720. But I think it still looks good.

Got some video of last nights super moon! :) Or at least I gave it some kind of try! lol If I exposed it for the moon I would lose the city lights and I couldn't really up the exposure because it got really bright so I just settled somewhere in the middle. It ended up looking like a giant star moving across the night sky. :)
