I've already got an aftermarket headunit. It's the Alpine iDA-x200 found here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-mHo17zoptnh/p_500IDAX200/Alpine-iDA-X200.html

And my comps are are the Alpine Type S's found here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ype+s&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1199494646675

I'm not happy with these as I've had them for about a 9 months and recently I've noticed a "crackling" coming from the passenger side. It might just be a bad connection which I'll check out when I do the install but I plan on upgrading to different ones very soon. Probably CDT Audio Euro Sports at woofersetc.com, but that's months down the road so I"ll settle for the alpines right now...I just won't have any crossovers mounted b/c they're on the actual speaker.

    Suggestions ?[/quote]

I know a lot of people on various forums really like CDT's. Never heard a set. The comps may be damaged. Do you listen to your music at loud volumes?

For what your running 4 guage would be fine. Have you ever installed a system before?

Yeah, I've done about 4 or 5 intalls over the past few years, all on cars that I've owned. I know how to do it, just want to make sure I'm doing it right.

Also, in regards to my comps, yes I do listen to music pretty loud, but it only crackles sometimes not all the time so I have no idea what's up with them. A friend of mine took his system out his Prelude when he sold it and he's got Boston Acoustic comps, 6.5'' and 6''x9'', so I'm thinking I'll toss those in my doors. I've heard them already and they are nice and crisp even on a little factory amp from Honda, so I'll more than likely be getting them.

Is there a way to tell if a speaker is "blown" or not ?

Any advice on the best sound deadener to use ? Dynamat ? Raamat ? Others ? I'm doing the rear of the cab, the doors and maybe the floor.

    Is the install hard ?

I wanted to go with JL, but I can't find a shallowmount smaller than 13.5'' and I don't want that much bass in the truck. Hmmm....maybe I just couldn't find it ?

I've heard it. I did some testing for Nick (owner of Stereo Integrity) and I tried it out in a Lexus IS300 and a Honda Accord. It's a good sub and it sounds great. Very low distortion and VERY shallow. You could mount one basically anywhere.. http://stereointegrity.com/bm.php

Try second skin. Keep in mind there is tar based and butyl based deadener. Butyl is more is expensive but MUCH easier to work with. If not you may/may not need a heat gun with the tar based. Also tar based will smell up your car for a while! I would link you to some stuff but I'm at work and can't get to most sites.

Yeah I saw how slim it is. May be something to consider in the future

Yeah, but it's not blown if it still plays. It's likely partially blown/damaged. I you throw the Bostons in there you'll know for sure if its the speaker or if you need more troubleshooting.

I just did my rear wall, floor and doors with Raamat BXT II and ensolite. Cost me $230 and i had a couple panels left over and a little bit of ensolite.

Was it hard...no...but it was a pain in the ass and I definitely got tired of crawling around the cab and my fingers were a bloody mess from the aluminum making tiny little paper cuts that i didn't feel until i went to wash my hands...

but having said that, I shut the doors and took a drive without any door panels on and it was night and day. Was it worth it? I say yes now but i was second guessing myself at the end.

I will say this...there is no need for multiple layers and for covering the "entire surface". At least not with the BXT II.

That's a good point...that aluminum backing is sharp! It's like cutting a pop can in half and running your finger on the edge.
