2011 Toyota coming up on 200k.

Came with the stock radio and 6 disc CD changer.

A few years ago the volume went out on the radio unit. no problem. I just used the steering wheel controls.

Radio is getting funkier. Controls don't always work and sometimes it jumps channels.

Since the radio is old and since I don't own any CDs any more, I figure its time to replace it with something more modern. Maybe something that connects to my Iphone.

    Any suggestions?

Also, if I ditch the stock radio does that mean I lose the factory Bluetooth and hands free?

    thanks

Crutchfield has a ton of options and makes it super easy to figure what will and won’t work on your truck. They aren’t always the cheapest but I’ve found their pricing to be pretty good. They also have the option of buying pre-wired kits that are “plug and play” for steering wheel controls, and adapting the stereo to the factory harness. I personally try to support our local stereo shop when I can but you could at least start by browsing crutchfield for a comparison.

I got mine from Crutchfield with the steering wheel kit. Kenwood DD396 radio. Works great for years now.

I did the same about 5 years ago, also a Kenwood + Maestro interface. Way better then stock and was able to keep the factory JBL amp and speakers.

When I decided to replace the non-JBL system, Crutchfield's Ready Harness system worked great as the harness supplied with the receiver is prewired with all the OEM connectors for the specified make, model, cab style and more. After installing Hush Mat sound deadening insulation (Best Buy) in the front doors, it sounded better. Replaced the front door speakers with Infinity Reference 3-way 6x9 speakers on solid HDPE spacers (from aftermarket source taco tunes) and installed a Sony single-DIN CD/AM/FM receiver with 2-channel Bluetooth on Crutchfield's system purchase discount. I'm still trying to figure out how to mount the supplied microphone and get the handsfree system sorted out, but I like having the excuse of being able to call people back when I can concentrate on them, and not the driving. Like the cubby under the radio, too.
Any desire for the stock speakers out there?

I have posted SEVERAL TIMES about an upgrade for less than $200. Look through my posts for details.

I went ATOTO first. Then got a Tesla screen couple weeks back. Both decent options. Cruchtfield will make it all easier.

Just AM/FM. Sometimes I connect my phone via the jack. If I had a navigation option, I'd absolutely use that.

2nd vote for Crutchfield. Their vehicle vs head unit compatibility system really takes the headache out of installation, especially with the custom harness service.

I'd ask yourself if you want Carplay/Android Auto before you go down the rabbit hole of upgrading your head unit. That said, you really can't go wrong with a Kenwood, Alpine or Sony unit.

A word of advice - yes, they're cheap but those Chinesium Android wannabe Tesla tablet screen 'stereos' can be a bit iffy from a QC standpoint - a buddy of mine had one of those Joying units and the screen started delaminating on a lukewarm Fall day here in the PNW. Replacement stereo was DOA, so take that for what it's worth. Buy once, cry once I guess...you get what you pay for
