A 305 Camaro wouldnt be a bad car to have, but if I had a kid I'd much rather they drive around with a 4cylinder or v6 granny mobile than a V8 the first year or two. Besides letting them start off with the V8 is cheating. They should earn it by swapping it in, also they'd learn a little bit about cars if they get that opportunity.

305 gets you the sound, that's about it.
They'll be wanting to swap in something if they're so inclined anyway. Anything fits easily in them at least.

Yeah, having anything 50 years old is going to require a little attention but can also teach you a lot.

Man, they were maintainance prone NEW

And air cooled engines usually needed rebuilding everytime they got hot. Like a dirt bike.

    edit: And Texas is HOT.

Why not water cooled VWs. Far cheaper and they beg for swaps and modding. Good cars to learn the basics on.

A decent mkii are peanuts... hell a good mkiv is cheap too.

If that 2nd gen Camaro had a 5 spd. swapped in, I'd be calling about it.
It would get pretty good mileage overdriven.

I had plenty of Air Cooled VWs and only did regular maintenance, replace points, valve adjustments, oil changes, nothing difficult on those cars.

You never had alternator problems constantly? I can remember buddies cars always having dead batteries. One fun trick I remember was them changing the belt while running though.

I had a blast with air-cooled VW's back in the day, but that was pre-cellphone social media attention whore syndrome. There's not a chance I'd let a new driver out on the road with one these days unless they were a bastard stepchild with a meaty life insurance policy.

It's also worth mentioning they have had a tendency to get stolen ask me how I know.

Notchbacks are really cool, I had a 70 Squareback for a short period of time, did a couple quick repairs and sold it for double what I paid for it.
