This is going to be my first build thread but not my first build. I started building Jeep's when I was 14 and have dabbled in various motor sports since I could drive. I have owned everything from 42" stickys - Hoosier slicks.

This is my first Toyota and since I have finally owned it a month and decided it's sticking around I have began making it mine. Some of the things I am doing right now might seem weird, but I am attempting to pay it off before I spend large amounts of money on fun parts. I will do my best to get caught up to date within the week.

    To start,
    2011 Access Cab with 4.0/auto/4x4.

This is the picture I snapped of it at the car lot I bought it at. I bought it with 107,000 miles with the receipt for every service done by the same local shop and a few repairs out of state. It came with the TRD wheels even though it is just a base. It also came to me without a tailgate.

Within the first week I removed the jump seats from the back to gain some space as well as removed the mud flaps and painted the wheels charcoal.

Day 8 or so I took it up to the sand dunes to play and do some plinking with my father and a coworker.

Like I said in my first post, I am trying to pay it off before doing anything too expensive....
Well I made it about three weeks into owning it before I decided I can't Leave it absolutely stock so once a pay check (biweekly) from my side job, I spend a little bit to make it more comfy.

I bought a set of weathertechs off of Craigslist for $25..... amazing deal for nearly brand new floor mats.

Then due to my addiction to the sand dunes and plan of being able to tow a small trailer, I wanted to be able to see my transmission temperature so I bought an ultra gauge 1.3mx. So far I have gotten the trans up to 220* sitting on a rock obstacle in 4 low attempting to crawl and bump and preload the transmission. I will add a big transmission cooler soon because I believe it not have one at all being the base model.

The sound in these tacomas, at least this access cab, suck!
A ton of road noise from the rear and the stock stereo barley audiable while on the interstate... Plan was to sound proof first and then upgrade the stereo but I decided to do it the other way around based on stereo costing less than the soundproofing material.

I bought a single din Scosche radio surround kit, a cheap pioneer head unit, and a $4 wiring pigtail off of Amazon for under $80.

The install went smooth and is actually easier to pull apart than I expected. The color and texture doesn't match 100% but I plan on switching everything to black eventually and might buy a double din when I have extra money down the road.
Yesterday I had an opportunity to buy a JL 12" shallow subwoofer and box from a guy who needed money to buy a shotgun because of the current clown sightings.
$110 and some 12g ammo and it was mine. I had a 750watt amp from a previous vehicle and used it.
I plan on building a rear deck for my dog to sit on when I only take my Shepard with me but for now the sub is just sitting there minus where I cut the back panel to scoot it back an extra 4" so the seat can still scoot back and recline completely. The amp is mounted below it, the self tappers I had on hand to mount it were too short to actually make it to metal and are just secured to the carpet for my camping trip.
Don't mind the shotgun, I am enroute to go camping and just threw it in there till I meet up with the rest of the group.

    I suck at build threads.
First thing I really built was a set of sliders. After my second or third trip to the sand dunes I somehow hit my door sill with a stump or something and left a nice dent and some missing paint.

These are based off the sliders we build at the shop I work at part time (TNT customs).

I cut some 2x2 for the arms and the main slider and then bent some 1.5x.120 DOM for a step. For the frame mounts I had some 3/16" plate cut and broke to maximize weld area and surround the frame to maximize strength. I added a single plate to fill inbetween the tube and the 2x2 to add support and keep mud and dirt from being kicked up. I also cut out some triangle gussets to try and prevent any flex. I hate how most sliders seem to hang down a lot more than needed so I cut and beat my pinch seam in order to tuck them up higher. I had to notch the 2x2 for the fenders as they sit down further than anything else. If I built again I would stop short of the fenders to make it easier.

Here are some random wheeling pictures in no real order. Keep in mind this is all from within the last two months since I bought it.

Might notice I am missing my rear bumper and some sheet metal in the second to last picture.
I wanted more clearance so I started making my rear bumper, I will finish it with a tire carrier as soon as I make up my mind on my hinge setup.

I also trimmed the fenders in anticipation for new rubber (35" MTR/K) that will eventually fill the space.

To finish the rear I need to purchase my shocks (probably 14" travel 2.5" king bypasses or resivours), box the frame, new crossmembers to replace the factory spare crossmembers, maybe a bastard pack (add a lift), shackle flip, Uboltbeliminator, replace the y pipe back in the exhaust to tuck everything up and out of the way, and a bit of a bed cage/shock crossmember/storage solutions.

It is just double side tapped there wth the mount they sell with the ultra gauge. I just zip tied the wires. I will snap a picture tomorrow.

    Few updates:
I bought a used leer topper and got some spidertrax wheel spacers so I can hopefully use these stock wheels with 35s without rubbing the uppercontrol arm or frame too much.
I also sprayed the wheels black while I installed the spacers just to switch it up and cover some rock rash.
Headed to Moab next weekend so should get some good pictures there. Hopefully I can start building a front bumper and get the front lifted an inch or two to level it out, not spending a lot of money since I have decided on a solid axle swap vs long travel.

When you open the tire carrier doesn't it drop down since you didn't use a spindle ?

Nope. The two joints create a triangle if you could imagine. With this design I can preload for a heavier wheel and tire by extending the lower joint out.

Went and ran poison spider and hells revenge in Moab last weekend. I have over 200 pictures on my Facebook but will just post a few teasers here.

This thing is crazy low and long compared to what I am used to. No damage from the trip besides a few new scrapes and dings on the underside.
Plan of attack for the next few months.
I just ordered poly body mount bushings and radiator support bushings. I will hopefully get those installed at the same time do a major body mount chop the week after thanksgiving.
Then focus on building my front bumper after I buy a winch.
Then a cheap front lift (probably just 5100s or a spacer) and rear shackle flip.
Then I am going to buy some 35"mtrs since these tires don't have much life left and then shortly after either allied beadlocks or trailreadys.
I also have to reroute my exhaust and start working on some skid plates to get ready for the summer.

That is the short term plan, long term (once it gets paid off):
I want to bob the bed to fit a 5' topper,
Build a spider hp9" front with detroit and 4.88s and possibly a 9" rear otherwise stock axle will get trussed with Detroit and 4.88s.
PAC hydro assist and alluminum links.
Radflo 2.5" coilover front and 2.5 bypass rear.
Fj case and a crawl box.
