I'm in the process of changing by timing belt and water pump. All has gone well but having issues with the marks lining up. Have any experienced marks on the belt that were wrong?
The only way I can get everything perfect is to have the crank mark on the oil pump off to the left just a bit. That way all other marks line up and the belt is tight everywhere except on the tensioner side. Here is another picture of the mark for the left cam, it's off a bit, it the closest in this position. If I move it back or forward a tooth it's even more off. Thanks for any help.

I'm hoping so. I was thinking of ignoring the belt marks, but if I do then I have, IMO, to much slack on drivers side of the belt system. all 3 marks, 2 cams and crank all line up perfectly, but the belt marks do not.

All pictures are for the same line up when I changed my belt last summer. It started up and ran perfectly on the 1st crank.

Cams are aligned with the notch and paint marks on the back of the timing cover.

The pink TDC notch position. This is relative to the crankshaft belt mark.

    The Crankshaft to belt mark.

This was with the factory belt at 70,000 miles setting on TDC.

When you "pull the pin" and release the tensioner, it will draw up the slack in the lower part of the belt. That is providing you have the tensioner properly torqued and in position for the pin release.

Certainly looks as lined up as it possibly can be! Check it again with the tensioner in place.

Be doing that in a bit, and then I'll rotate a couple rotations and see what it looks like then. It's all good except that crank pulley mark. It's definitely not aligned perfectly with the mark on the oil pump.

when I did mine the belt was not inline with the marks on the cam shafts. All that matters is your camshafts are lined up with the markings on the engine. Same with the crankshaft. Yours seems to look pretty good in the pics, it looks like the camshafts and crank shaft are all slightly to the left by a 1/16th of an inch. So looks to be lined up correctly to me.

Yeah, pull the pin, turn it manually (clockwise!) 4 times and see where it lines up. You should be good to go.

The photos don't do justice, cams line up perfectly with engine marks, crank is off by a smidgen.

OK, no go here. Tried 3 different positions and no way I can get the belt on with cams on their marks and crank on its mark.
The best position seems to be where the crank is a tad bit off. How Important is it to have the crank perfect?

My other option, I guess, would be to rotate the cams clockwise a tad past the engine marks. Then the crank wood line up perfectly.

You've got it. Looks like mine before and after the new belt.

I honestly think you look ok, is the tensioner released and applying tension to the belt while you are doing this?

Yes except the belt on the water pump pulley side is a bit loose. Even with the tensioner all the way tight on the other side it won't tighten the belt on the water pump side. So I have taken it off again and em resetting it to where it looks the best but not perfect on the crank mark. DSC_0531.jpg DSC_0530.jpg DSC_0529.jpg

As you can see the marks along the ruler are off to the right just a tad bit. But it puts the crank almost perfect and of course all the marks on the Belt match, mostly. The one mark on the left cam of the belt is off a smidgen but I'm not too concerned about that Mark anyways.

Is it possible you got the wrong belt? That belt should be tight everywhere once the tensioner is released... that would be my biggest concern at this point.
Edit: or something wrong with the tensioner... did you replace the tensioner or re-using old?
