I recently acquired a '99 Tacoma 4 cylinder SR5. The odometer reads 133,000 miles. I do not know if the timing belt was ever replaced. From the Toyota site I found the maintenance manual, and this is what it says about replacing the timing belt:

    Mileage:
    90,000 Miles or 72 Months
90,000 Miles or 72 Months 90,000 Miles or 72 Months
. Replace engine air filter . Replace engine coolant
. Replace engine oil and oil filter . Rotate tires
    . Replace limited-slip differential oil (Land Cruiser)1
. Replace iridium spark plugs (Land Cruiser)2
    . Replace non-platinum spark plugs (Tacoma, 4Runner)2
. Replace timing belt (except 4-cyl. Tacoma and 4Runner)

So what does it mean by "...except 4-cyl. Tacoma...?" Is there a different schedule for 4 cylinder vehicles? If so, where can I find it?

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
Chain is supposed to be good for the life of the engine, as long as you change your oil correctly.

That's good to know. I'll just keep changing the oil. Thanks.
