So I have a 98 Tacoma with a V6. It only has 44k miles and I'm almost sure it has the original timing belt, but can't be sure. How can I inspect the timing belt without removing covers?

So has anyone ever thought about cutting an inspection port into their cover?

Quite simple to loosen the top cover and pull it front to have a look

Loosen the hose clamp slide it towards the radiator remove the bolts holding the cover slide it front

Take a gander at the belt .

Push the cover back install your bolts place the hose clamp back tighten if it is the screw type

I thought every one did this .

I do this during a pre purchase inspection

I still have to go get the truck and, having not gone through the process or having the truck in the driveway, I'm building my list of stuff that has to be done. I tend to think things are harder than they actually are but I also tend to do quite a few "fixes" to things just to make processes easier or a lot more simple.
